Just seen that Liverpool have confirmed that VVD is to undergo surgery on his ACL. Thankfully it wasn't ruptured, but any ACL injury can take a while to recover from. I'd guess at least 3 months. Could play a large part in the outcome of the title. I suppose City will be favourites now.

Huge loss for Liverpool but City’s defence is still unsure since Kompanys departure and no idea what their new lad will be like.
Will make the race for the title a little more interesting.

It'll be a strange old season I think. Could be more like the championship than the Premier league

I think Fabinho will go in defence and Thiago will run the show from ahead of the defence. They’ve gotten 11 points from 15 with 5 very tough games that most people will drop points against so they’re doing well enough. Imo 90 points will win the league this season.

They're on 10 points Robb and their aura of invincibility has slipped somewhat. Still a very good side and Allison coming back will help massively but it is a test for them. They may go for someone like Upamecano in January so if we have any interest in him we need to start working on him now.
The PL could be the most open it's been for years. Any team going on a good run could win it. Who knows, we could be like Chelsea in the Conte PL winning season going on a mad run after a heavy defeat to a north London team.

"Why would this have any bearing on Liverpool's title defence"
___
Because along with Allison they were the two missing pieces that laid the foundation. It led to two near flawless seasons with level of consistency and points accumulations rarely seen in the modern era.
Without him they are significantly weaker and even more porous than ever before.

Well dur
But when Laporte missed all last season apparently (according to our friends down the m62) this had no bearing on city’s ability to defend the title

Feel sorry for vvd who always comes across as a decent lad. He can look to Keano for example to see you can return as good as ever from this type of injury.

Keane did well to return and continue the way that he did, but he did adapt his game after the injury. Prior to the injury you could have described him as a box to box midfielder, but after he didn't get forwards as frequently after.

Well said, Elvis and Roy.
I think VVD's build and style of play makes this type of injury a concern for me. I hope it isn't as bad as some fear as he may struggle to get back to his level.

The ACL is just a crap injury. It's puts stress on the other ligaments which can cause complications.
