As mad as it sounds to say considering it is our first game back in the CL against one of the best sides in Europe but in context I think Saturday is the bigger game.
Defeat to PSG is far less damaging than a defeat to Chelsea.
I’m not saying put out a total 2nd string and almost forfeit the game but we could rest a few imo.
We saw the effect overplaying had on Rashford and to an extent Bruno last season and we don’t want similar again.
I’d use this game to integrate Telles & Cavani. If Cavani looks sharp I’d start him the weekend.
Van be Beek must start imo. Martial will surely play also.
Pogba looked pretty sharp and up for it off the bench as he always seems to do when brought on but the worst thing Ole could do is restore him right away imo.
I’d give Henderson his 1st game of a big game for us also. De Gea has been good so far but we need to keep Hendo interested too.
I’d go something like this if possible:
—————-Henderson—————
——Bailly —Maguire— Tuanzebe
Williams ——McT ——Matic ——Telles
————————VDB———————
————Cavani ———Martial————
Madness or what?
Should we rest a few vs PSG?

Absolutely shocking that you would even think of playing a weakened side against one of the best teams in Europe away from home.
That defence would get torn a new one. Tuanzebe hasn't played for about 18 months and you think he should come in against Mbappe?
Williams would get ripped apart by Neymar I am afraid. Cavani hasn't played for about 7 months either.
I agree with the 5 at the back and would go with Bailly, Maguire and Shaw with Telles and AWB wing backs. Matic, Pogba and Bruno in midfield with Rashford and Martial up top

I almost don't think it matters too much who the personnel is for this one as long as we have pace up top.
Let's face it we are going to be under intense pressure. Our chances of a result will depend on us being able to sit back deep, frustrate and hit effectively on the break. PSG's biggest weakest for me is that they are susceptible to the counter.
We need to defend well as a team, deny space in behind for them and look to get Martial n Rashford in on the break. If we can work on that game plan we can have some success. If we try to go toe to toe I feel we will get a hammering.

Bruno needs a rest, VDB deserves a start.
McT deserves to keep his place, and Fred deserves to be dropped.
Unsure about whether to play Pogba or Matic, but Pogba is now playing for his place, and he has to earn it back. I wouldn’t even be considering starting him against Chelsea.

If a player needs resting a month into the season then there’s something wrong. I get there was little pre season but they still had a month off from the end of last season to start of this. Get through this period of games then rest him imo.

Bruno hasn’t been at his very best, has played 360 mins for Portugal since the start of September, and we need him firing on all cylinders at the weekend.
VDB is a like-for-like replacement, seemingly more than ready for a start.
By the way, the way rotation works is you try to ensure that your side never gets to a position where everybody needs resting at the same time. Different players get different little breaks at different points to try to keep everyone fresh.
You don’t wait for three months of back-to-back fixtures before rotating players out, because then you end up seeing what we did at the end of last season: an entire starting XI staggering about the pitch all needing an extended break. Then you’re in the shiiiiit.

I kinda see what you are saying but our toughest games in this period over the next month are our next two. Bruno has to play in both. I don’t think Bruno played all the mins for Portugal either. I don’t see the likes of Salah, Mane etc being rested. You play him if he is playing poorly or fatigued you bring on either Pogba or VDB for him.

He missed 10 mins of one game for Portugal, but that’s it.
He also plays every game for them like it’s a cup final (as he does for us, to be fair). He’s the last player we want burning out, but I take your point.

Some players need to play to keep sharp, Rooney, Maguire being a couple of examples at Utd. Maybe Bruno falls into that category. He doesn't strike me as a player who is happy to be rested.

Looked like he was struggling at the end of last season.
At the same time that people are crying out for VDB to start, they don’t want to see Bruno rested.
We aren’t going to change the system to accommodate playing both players in attacking midfield, so if Bruno isn’t rested, it means Bruno or VDB out wide or playing in DM. The latter I can’t see (and rightly so). The former might be of use in some situations, but not in this game.
I think we have a perfect situation with VDB, to be honest: we can keep Bruno, to me our most important player right now, fresh whilst rotating in a very good squad player who is still settling in and can otherwise be used to hopefully great effect off the bench as an impact sub.
