Huddersfield Town 1 - 0 Derby County

John Smith/ McAlpine Stadium
Huddersfield

1945
Tuesday 20th October 2020

As the current crisis hits new lows (highs?) with Liverpool, Strabane, Wales and now our Wayne going into lockdown what better way to distract us from this dystopian scenario then watching mine and yours favourite football team going toe to toe with the mighty Huddersfield.......

What a culture eh? This time last year dealing with crashandrungate, then the spectre of points deduction we always seem to get the unwelcome headlines, though I must point out that Rooney has done nothing wrong.

A welcome return for Tom Lawrence seemed to cheer the Faithful - we didn't get the striker that we were promised in the transfer window but got CKR which seem to please some people. Look, wait until Bielek and Waggy are back then we can look forward to being top 10 in 2021-22.

Team news:-

Marshall,
Wisdom
Davies
Clarke
Byrne
Shinnie
Bird
Buchanan
Knight
Lawrence
Jozwiak

Subs: Roos (gk), Forsyth, te Wierik, Waghorn, Kazim-Richards, Holmes, Hector-Ingram.

VC, we were ok first half last night, but scoring is a big problem, (rather not scoring in our case).

As I have said many times beforeNigel did nothing wrong here.
I wouldn't mind him

Remember, we are not appointing a manager for the star quality in post-match interviews where Nigel may just have the edge of Cocu.

Yes Scouse I thought we would win last night after the first half. Udders were poor till they scored. We just aren't doing enough to win games, we flatter to deceive and the wasted dead balls were criminal.

I want Cocu to do well because the next manager will probably be worse. I'm glad i've seen the good times under both Cloughs, Mackay and Mac1.

“We aren’t doing enough to win games” sums it up. Not enough men getting forward, not enough gambling and trying something different like a one-two on the edge of the box or a first-time pass that might just come off.

The full backs got forward a bit but they could both push up at least ten yards like proper wing backs and make it 3-4-3 rather than 5-2-3. There is a bit of risk if possession is lost but the alternative is plodding on as we are and hoping that adding Waghorn, CKR or Duncan to the mix will be the catalyst that sparks it into life.

Bit of the rose-tinted with Nigel btw. I remember very bitter arguments on here under his tenure. I was a staunch defender of him but watching us home and away I saw some shocking, hopeless displays that were far worse than anything under Cocu. It took him a long, long time to get rid of all the overpaid crap we had on the payroll and we could easily have been relegated under him. Patience was rewarded, at least in assembling a group of very good players even if it eventually took McLaren to light the touch paper. There aren’t any guarantees that patience will lead to better times but the situation now and when Clough took over are not that dissimilar.

Cocu should be pinching himself that he is still in a job. Mel had far less patience with Clement, Pearson and McClaren two of whom were getting better results from the team. Is he waiting until Rooney is out of isolation to swing the axe.

The much anticipated win on Friday will be a stay of execution.......perhaps!

I don't think changing the manager will change things.

There appears to be a massive culture problem at the club, managers and players who flop here do fine elsewhere.

Bad culture and bad habits breed, that's why it was important to get Lawrence out of the club as soon as possible, as he was one of the main offenders, but the slow change over time just allows problems to spread like rot, and bring down anybody who joins.

I don't know if it's an entitlement thing "best facilities outside of the prem, let's sit in our comfort zone" or something else, but at this point, after so many failed managers, and failed players it's clearly a problem on a larger scale than 'swap the manager'

on paper I thought we'd done well in getting rid of certain faces, but now I'm starting to think we allowed them to stick around for too long

more worrying for me is that if we don't get our act together and do go down there's still the EFL's appeal lingering over us, and that could be a points deduction in League 1.
