Mason - any truth?

So the media are running that ole has lost patience with Mason after his questionable attitude

Aside from what happened on duty with England apparently the boy is tardy by nature.

I sure hope he isn’t going to go down the Ravel route here

This. Makes no sense to conflate the two issues.

Should Greenwood have been picked? Did he need more rest? In the absence of a pre-season, might going on international duty have accelerated his fitness? Was an England call-up likely to further fuel his self-belief and motivation or was it too much too soon for a developing footballer? I really don't know. If there were serious misgivings about his physical readiness to play or about his psychological maturity, I'd hope that Solskjaer would have made that clear to Southgate - and if he did and it was ignored, then there's a valid criticism to make of the England manager. It's also quite possible that this is a less black and white call, and another chapter in the age-old club/country tussling over playing resources.

Quite separately, if Greenwood accepted an England call-up and wanted to play for his country, he should have followed the rules once he joined up, and he let down both England and United by breaking them.

Not meaning to conflate the two issues more questioning southgate's overall handling of Mason. Of course Mason has to take personal responsibility for his actions. My contention is that the young lad should never have been picked at all for these games given his involvement in UTD's packed end of season fixtures.
The prudent course of action would have been to overlook him and allow him back home to spend time with his family and prepare for this season.

Southgate then adds to his poor handling of Mason by excluding him from the recent England squad citing the previous covid indiscretion but at the same time welcomes Maguire back into the fold whose actions were equally as embarrassing to club and country.

If the lad is having personal problems at this time it is no wonder given the public embarrassment he's indured.

What should have been a summer reflecting on a brilliant breakthrough season at club level has been tarnished for him

Hopefully he gets through this. One would expect he is getting all the help he needs from ole and his team mates

Southgate’s not to blame for Greenwood playing up. He had every right to call him up for England. Greenwood threw that in his face by breaking the rules.

Indeed southgate isnt to blame for Greenwoods mistake as shown by the player himself taking ownership of it with his public apology.

Being England manager does give him the right to call up any English player he wants.

Some common sense in relation to greenwoods call up and the lad wouldn't and imo shouldn't have been there at all

What common sense? Greenwood deserved his call up and should have been there. He messed up when given his chance.

Might as well blame Ole for playing Greenwood so much, putting him in the limelight and causing him to be in the position to have these disciplinary issues with United and England. But that would be daft as well.

Common sense to anyone watching our games would have dictated that all the utd players were needing a rest when their season finally ended at the end of August.

One would have expected more consideration and concern on the part of the England manager for an 18 year old lad who according to ole was physically and mentally in need a rest.

Nothing daft at all about properly managing and looking after young players

Talk about spin.

Ole’s making excuses for Greenwood. That’s fine, he wants to protect his player. Greenwood didn’t even play for England anyway so the idea that they didn’t properly manage or look after him is nonsense.

England didn’t do anything wrong with Greenwood. It’s daft to suggest they have. The only party at fault is Greenwood.

What spin Darren

We could all see the utd squad were out on their feet when the season finished in Germany.

Mason is an 18 year old kid who had just played a major part in that gruelling end of season run of fixtures that included nearly 3 weeks away at Europa league knock out final competition.
The last thing he needed was another 2 plus weeks away playing against the likes of Iceland in glorified friendlies. The fact that he didnt play is besides the point.
Gross stupidity and selfishness on the part of southgate that he dragged the young lad along at all.
