I can't remember if Clichy was good that year, but he gifted Birmingham their penalty for the equaliser
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He made the team of the season. He was great.

Mate, if you only win a race against Usain Bolt because he tripped and fell on his face, you can't claim to be the fastest runner.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
. Go to bed mate.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's a fair point. They won. They were a very good team. They weren't better than Arsenal and were only marginally ahead of Chelsea. They won only because we imploded. It matters in GOAT discussions.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s asinine and a completely laughable comparison. At this point, given the paucity of anything like a compelling retort I have to think you’re wumming because you’re a much better poster than this. Done truly awful rhetoric from you here.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Are you aware that some of the runners finishing behind Bolt would be, if not for Bolt, the fastest ever runners? If Bolt falls on his face, they still wouldn't be the fastest. We're not talking about whether or not they were great. This isn't like SAF's last year. We're talking about whether or not they're the greatest. They were pushing a passed-it Scholes plus Anderson and Carrick. They had a stonking attack and two great centre backs. Evra was also good, but behind Clichy that year. Arsenal had Gallas (who, personality aside, was quite good), Toure, Clichy, Sagna, Fabregas, Flamini, Rosicky, Hleb, Adebayor, Van Persie and Eduardo. We were so much better than them it's not funny.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Once again, the comparison is completely asinine. Us being unable to see the job through is not akin to Usain Bolt falling over for crying out loud. We were a team that admirably overachieved not a pre-eminent performer the likes of which the sport had never seen. That Utd side were able to do a league and CL double at a time when the league was as strong as it has ever been. They beat us twice and drew once with us that year so had us head to head too. All the hypotheticals in the world don’t change the facts. They were a great side who outlasted a strong league and a strong CL. They were superb all round and could and did win in a variety of ways.

A past it Scholes and carrick and you use one season wonder Flamini as a sign of quality. Stop it. Now.

From what I remember it wasn't a penalty, was just another game the refs decided to give the plucky team a penalty (like that 4-4 v Newcastle).

Not seen it back though, could be wrong

"one-season wonder" isn't a slight when you're talking about one season now, is it?

We out-performed expectations, but I wouldn't say we were over-achieving. Our results were barely good enough relative to our performances. We were a surprise package, as I have already said, but we were still utter quality. United were a great side, but not one of the greatest. They did not reach the heights that we did in that year alone. To be in the conversation, being great and consistent isn't good enough, you have to do something special. The Invincible are the best example of that. Barcelona in 2011 weren't just special because of the trophies they won, but because of what they did on the way. That united side won the league, not because they were the best, but because another team suffered an injury that should never happen as the result of a mentality and lenience that ensured it wasn't a one-off and was more likely to happen to those players than anyone else. They were a bit like Barca when they were reliant on MSN. Great, but not the greatest.

Yeah, that was the nail in the coffin of our season. Reckon we could have rallied without it.

The pen was debatable but Clichy had so much time to clear it before that. No idea how he didnt see the Birmingham player coming in from the right. I'm not even sure he got any of the ball, looks like the other player who nicks it away.
