Playing 11 a-side when I was 14. Sunday league. Anyway, the other team had this lad up front who was sensational.. built like an 18 year old at that age and just incredibly fast and powerful. A danger player, one of those you can't really defend against!!

So our team turned up with a player less at kick off and our manager says 'if we beat this lot today, i'll be taking everyone to the pub for a p*ss up' before giving me the captain's armband.

I went in on their star man twice in sliding tackles when it looked like he was about to run away from me towards goal, he went flying both times and I won the ball cleanly..

Final score, we won 4-2 with ten men and I scored twice. I even got that little man of the match trophy and thought I was the absolute b*llox for a week or two.

Never scored again after that game!!

Oh and my second goal was sublime.. played through on goal with an over the top through ball. One on one with their GK, I feigned to shoot at least twice; just waiting for him to come off his line. I timed it perfectly, as he came to charge me down I just looped it over him into the net; a bit like an Ian Rush goal I've seen from the 80's.

What a performance...

I scored a goal from my own half in a 7s match when i was 9 and craig brown, who was scotland manager at the time was watching. I then scored a bullet header in the same game. After the game i thought brown would have me sent straight to rangers or celtic youths after witnessing my performance.

He never said a thing.

I played in goal from the age of 10, until we moved onto full size pitches where it became painfully apparent that I was too short to do anything about shots to the top corner.

So partway through the season i got moved up front/right-mid. My best goal was as a late runner into the box to a floated cross from the left. It went over everyone and nobody had picked me up. Took one touch to control and the ball sat up lovely so I just volleyed it right into the far corner.

As far as I'm aware I was the only player that season to finish with 2 penalty saves and 4 goals

in hockey mad quebec there wasn't much proper football when i was a kid. out west in bc always had the most serious league. in a country wide under 14 tournament we played a team from vancouver and were humiliated 11-2. the highlight was i got the two goals. don't remember much more about the game except there were two large pools of water in front of each goal as it had poured for a week straight.

None for me. I once played in a team that lost 14-0 though.
