First off, terrible result last night. Fully deserved to lose, with Antwerp as good as we were poor. That said, Peter Drury and JJ's commentary had me regularly shaking my head, tutting and swearing under my breath. Patronising, inane, flowery drivel from one, pure misery from the other.
Anyway, we go again. First defeat since the opening day, and first away defeat all season, plus making that many changes was always bound to have an impact. A bad excuse, too, but all these games we have played at the start of the season - surely more than anyone else? - must be having some effect.
To Sunday's game, then, and the not very enticing prospect of a Box Office match against Brighton. Like most people, I resent paying £14.95 - on top of the money I already pay to have Now TV and the BT Sport app, etc - to watch Spurs. It must be even worse for those season ticket holders who have already paid out a considerable amount of money on that, and then no doubt Sky Sports and BT packages too, only to be faced with a further cost.
It's a con, really, because we all know most Prem clubs don't get their money from matchday revenue, and it would have been a great gesture to continue showing all the surplus games on Sky, BT, Amazon Prime and the BBC. An easy win, but like with the proposed talk of the super league and Project Big Picture, it's all about the money to many of these high-ranking execs.
In my case, I'm in the fortunate position where I probably could afford to pay £14.95 for a one-off game, but not everyone is so lucky. And if Spurs were on the Box Office twice in a month, or more, that soon builds up into something very unaffordable.
It will just encourage more people to seek the game through, ahem, other means.
On that point, do we think it will be harder to find a decent stream with the match being shown on Box Office and I imagine being much more closed off as a result?
It's been a while since I streamed a game, because Tottenham are (more often than not) on the TV these days, but I remember the last few times I have tried, having very little luck compared to, say, five years ago, or a decade ago when I was at uni.
So, is it a yes or no to Box Office? A con or just the clubs trying to claw back some much-needed revenue?
I think I will follow the lead of Newcastle fans and others.
