Wow, how generous is Bale?

"Wales football star Gareth Bale has given £15,000 to a campaign to feed struggling families over Christmas.

The Tottenham Hotspur winger has donated the cash to the Everyone Deserves a Christmas project in Swansea."

From BBC news.

---

So, how generous is Bale?

Well let's see: £15,000 is 3% of his weekly £500,000 per week pay.

So that's the equivalent of a person on the average wage of £30,000 a year giving... SEVENTEEN POUNDS & THIRTY PENCE

So generous or not? You decide.

There are many of footballers that donate nothing while on similar wages. In the context of his huge salary it is a pretty small donation and doesn't deserve to celebrated in the media as some great act of generosity. But I see no evidence that Bale has gone out of his way to court publicity for this donation.

Thanks for the link. That is certainly a significant donation even for someone on 500k a week. He may give lots of money away to other causes that never make the media.

======
The thing is, the charity (to feed struggling families at Christmas) probably was looking for less than £15k in donations in total. This donation will probably let them achieve their aims and more.
The donation shouldn't be judged by the amount Bale earns but by the amount the charity needs.

Fair point. He may even have asked them or found out how much they needed to raise and donated based on that.

so if Bill Gates helps out a homeless person on the street, he has to give them at least $400m in cash?

Point not missed at all.

The question was based on wealth should Bill Gates give $400m.

I just showed he has actually given a huge percentage of his entire wealth to good causes not just a small percentage of his weekly salary.
