I know a lot of people on here don't care for poetry but cut me a little slack. Out here in the 'Jewel of the Med' this is how I perceive the present situation. Everyone, no matter where you are in the world, you have your own 'bubble' and your own way of coping. Stay safe my ciber friends and let's look forward to getting back to a real normal and enjoying once again the sport we all carry in our hearts.
The New Normal
The empty beaches look bigger than last year
The sunrise and sunsets are still stunning
Unaffected by the weakness of humanity
The sea sparkles in the sunshine
The water clarity is breathtaking
Better than before lockdown.
A coincidence? I think not!
Friends meet, wanting only to greet in the traditional way
A hug, two air-kisses
No danger there surely?
But now we have new traditions
Social distancing
Or anti-social distancing?
Shops with shutters down
Only the graffiti artists remaining open for business
Bars and restaurants closing
But not in October
No, no this is March
Some will never open again
Less business, less jobs
Ordinary people who normally earn their living
Have to find new ways to support their families
Ordinary people become desperate people
Desperate people do desperate things
Strangers are now acquaintances
At least on nodding terms
Friend and family are strangers
In their own bubble many miles away
Oh how the heart aches for their company
Rather than a brief encounter via the internet
And still there are doubters
And conspiracy theorists
Who call it a hoax
Forty thousand Spaniards
Pretending to be dead then?
I think not!
The generation gap gets wider
The young, true to form, party on
Oblivious to danger, oblivious to responsibility
Whilst the old hide behind their masks
Wash their hands
And pray to God to be spared

It is certainly a positive of that strange year that the environment does seem a lot cleaner. Much fewer cars on the road. I did 17,000 miles last year and so far this year have done less than 3,000. And the rivers round here have water that looks clean enough to drink. Would be good if that became the new normal, but in many other ways I’d like to go back to the old normal

Nice work Gem.
Similar to DJ, I usually do a good number of business miles, but have done very few this year, in fact none at all since March. Which is not good as I get a generous mileage rate from my employer which helps subsidise the finance and servicing.
