Greatest goal scorer in our club history
1. Bicycle kick vs City
2. Volley vs Newcastle
3. From halfway vs Westham
4. Volley vs Middleborough
5. Individual run vs Reading
So many to choose from of course but these are my top 5

Even though we lost the game, his goal in the CL final against Barca was nice.
I also remember the AC Milan one fondly where he beat dida at the near post.
I loved every single one of his hat trick goals against Fenerbache on his debut, because I realised immediately that it was the dawn of the new era of United after a few years looking a bit shakey.

The one against Barca was offside so wouldn't have counted today so shouldn't make top 5

I feel like he doesn't get the recognition he deserved, and I'm not sure why. Even amongst are own fans I feel like there a not insignificant number who think of his as second tier in our history. He was phenomenal for us. A true legend in my eyes.

I sometimes wonder if it's just something to do with English/British players?
I know Spurs fans feel that Kane doesn't get the credit he deserves.
Not sure, but tend to agree.

Didn't Rooney pee off some Utd fans when he wanted to move away?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He did, and I still hold that against him a little, but it shouldn't have any bearing on our judgement of him as a footballer imo.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No, true.
He was a hard worker as well. Would chase plenty of lost causes

Would put his chip vs Portsmouth up there

Ridiculous goal, David James is huge and he's not even that far off his line.
Only thing that taints this goal in the history books is that Rooney tried it 3 times a game for the next 5 years.

Barefoot (U19770)
Agreed, and played out of position a lot - still delivered the goods.
Fantastic player for us.

I always preferred the Newcastle volley to the City bicycle kick. Great counter-attack goal at Arsenal as well in a 3-1 win, where he just swept it home from Nani's pass.

So many aren't there? What a legend.

underrated. Fantastic player, best english player for me since gazza.
Bit torn on the city goal, as it hits his shinpad, but the sheer audacity to try it is so ballsy. And the timing of it.

Timing both in the sense of winning the derby and also because he'd been a bit out of form that season, linked with a move away.
It may have hit his shin but at least it wasn't a deflection

That was the one that came to my mind too. The audacity of the finish, reflected in the wry look on James' face as it dawns on him what has happened.
