Team News v Arsenal

Phillips probably starting
Rodrigo available but likely not ready to start
Pablo muscle injury in training, nothing serious but misses this game
Llorente return delayed by complication
Shackleton still needs more time

Great to see Phillips back for obvious reasons, but massive shame Rodrigo won't be starting. I'm surprised by this. I assumed he would remain in good condition and be unaffected by the virus.

Will be interesting to see who Bielsa plays in that role.
We have no Rodrigo, Pablo, Shackleton who would all be next in line. Leaving Roberts as the most likely option. I really like the lad, and think he is unfairly criticised on here. But I have to acknowledge his performances haven't been as good as they should be this season.

I do wonder if Raphinha will be considered as an option to play as an attacking 8 or 10 in that position. Bielsa seems to have given contradictory messages as to his views on Raphinha's potential there. He is obviously more suited to playing as winger at this stage, but I think he is worth a chance. If it doesn't work out I'm sure Rodrigo will come on at half time. Raphinha has shown enough ability to retain possession under pressure, drop deep to receive the ball, and has played some exceptional passes.

Who do you think should play in that position, I don't think any other position is up for debate.

Bielsa's belief in the smaller squad is all very well but hard to praise when you see the effects a few injuries has on the team and its performances. We could ride out this level of injuries in the Championship but as we go through this season, I fear that every injury will take its toll until we have decent cover for every position. Here's hoping Radz and Orta pull rank and spend well in the Jan window.

agree, small squad can only work in the pl if you have no european games and no injuries. i'm happy with how we've played so far but between bad ref decisions and injuries we can only do so much.

Good post. I also find it disturbing that Robin Koch has now been on the end of three heavy defeats on the trot - our two plus Germany's. I wonder what that's done to his head?

Hope Rodrigo recovers quickly and fully.

It's been a heck of a long two weeks and have barely followed the internationals at all other than checking results.

I think at this level you have to look to improve your squad over several windows (if you get chance). We were never going to get in 7 to 8 senior players in the summer. The squad is light in a few areas but we'll have to cope. No score prediction from me just want a disciplined energetic performance and to play like we know we can with no giveaways.

Robin Koch did manage to get in a couple of decent results between Palace and Spain games for Germany. So not quite on the bounce. But his lack of consistency is a bit of a concern. Not clear which Koch is the real koch at the moment. Don’t read that last bit out loud. He’s had a few excellent games for us and looked like a steal. And in other games he’s made too many mistakes. No reason that the excellent Koch can’t be the real Koch going forward though. Just need to keep our fingers crossed.

Spot on Rob. We could have done a lot more damage than good by trying to sign too many first team players. Let’s develop over two or three seasons. As long as we improve each summer that’s what matters. Buy too many at once and you can go backwards quite quickly.

We need another central midfield player in January.

We have already struggled and I genuinely dread to think what would happen if we lost klitch

I would wait until the summer unless we are in trouble. If we are comfortable I would just leave it. We obviously tried to sign one in the summer and he failed the medical. And another 8 or 10 would definitely make us stronger but only sign one if the right player is available. Everyone knows more players are available in the summer.

Throwing blame at Koch is normal it seems, even though the 3 games that people are referring to were heavy loses, there were 10 other players on the pitch in each game!..

I don't think in the Leeds loses the team played the way it could!..

And the German Spain game I watched here, funny, I don't watch much football unless its Leeds games, and Internationals I cant remember the last one I watch!..

But the German commentators were happy before the game saying at long last we've got someone that'll give us a proper test!..

End of the game they were saying now we know against proper opposition we're not as good as we like to think we are!..

Germany we utter crap, that shouldn't be pointed at Koch because people here thought he was one of the better players!..
