Greed

I'm sorry but its about time fans took a step to stop the greed of the players.

It seems over 300 players including likes of bale and ibrahimovic are planning to sue EA sports for there use of their likeness in the fifa games.

Seriously? Dont these player already have enough already? Gonna cause EA to start releasing games with fake player names cos they don't wanna be sued over it?

I guess the rich just wanna get richer. Bunch of overpaid pansies.

You can reflect that comment about 'Greed' right back at EA. They make over 5 billion each year of FIFA, with the main selling point being the players themselves. I can bet you that the licensing fees are not even close to 1 billion, so players get less than 20% of their cut.

If you compare it to blockbuster movies, which people mostly watch because of the main actors, they get at least 30-50% of the total revenues.

I'd rather players get paid a fair share for their portrait rights, than us paying EA shareholders off each year for a stagnant product...

Well said.

FIFA are the greedy ones. The online aspect is a disgrace making people buy packs, they make fortunes i would rather the players got it than the suits.

The gambling aspect of FUT aside, EA are well known for exploiting staff (crazy crunch time stories), buying established studio's to milk their franchises and close those studio's when people vote with their wallets (Bullfrog, Westwood).

It's also no coincidence that Zlatan is one of the first to speak up. You can say everything bad about Raiola you want, but the guy isn't stupid business wise. Gaming has blown up over the past 5 years, but players still get peanuts for their portrait rights. He would be the first to notice that the pie has gotten bigger but the slices were shrinking

Always assumed the game/EA/Fifa had the rights for the clubs on the game and the players were within that.

I have to say, when I first saw this story, my immediate reaction was:

"Can't you just let the fans have this?"

This!..

They must have the rights to do what they've done, or they would have been sued long ago!..

It is ridiculous, but as mentioned already EA rinse these FIFA games to death releasing them yearly, mostly the only difference in them is the updated transfers.

You then have the FUT system, the epitome of greed.

People are daft enough to buy them every year, hence why they do it.

Its the principle.

EA/FIFA making an absolute ton of money off the back of these images.

Without the players names and faces the interested in the game would be much reduced. Why should others profit massively off the back of players .

Oh, I don't doubt it's totally covered legally, but this is just part of the negotiation tactics. Again, it's not a coincidence that the duration of the FIFA game-license is ending either this edition (FIFA21) or after the next one. Even if the footballers don't get any extra money in retrospect for the previous games, this is the right timing to negotiate for the next few games.

If enough high profile footballers join their cause and opt-out, you won't have a complete license, ie a not as valuable product. So in the end everyone will get a new deal as this is not brexit but strictly business...

Presumably it’s come about because they’ve seen how much Beckham was paid to be put on the game?

Maybe its time we stopped buying the game. Stop paying sky etc for the overpriced subscription fees. Stop buying the merch and going to games until they make it a fairer price for the consumer
