DPL v Carlisle United

Sorry this is late. The KO is 13:30 with the match on BBC iPlayer.

Carlisle were fortunate to get through the last tie at Hayes and Yeading and only did so on penalties having scored 2 goals in the dying minutes of extra time. They did seem well below their best then, allowing the non league side to dictate the pace on a rather poor surface.

In the league they seem to score quite a lot on the break and look skilful and very willing to shoot at distance. They have also been scoring quite a lot of goals recently and having seen a series of the 2-minute highlights the standard of their football is quite impressive.

They are 6th in League 2 having won 5 out of six at home and scored 13 goals in the process. So we will need to be sharp from the kickoff.

Despite this, I reckon we will do well and win comfortably, say 2-0 with Anderson for the first goal

thought sims was my m.o.m. - is there the any possibiluty of signing lumley? - although he didnt have too many saves to make he appears to still be a solid dependable keeper - think we might have tried to sign him years ago - before we got gary woods (worst keeper ive even seen in a rovers shirt lol!!)

Bonus points - congrats to Nookie! It was too early over here for me to make a prediction although I was planning to say 2-1 to the Rovers with Sims scoring. I've tried to see BBC coverage in the past by setting my VPN to a UK source. It seems to work, but then asks for my TV Licence number! I wasn't getting up that early for just commentary - but would do if it was, say, the FA Cup Semi-Final.
As I assume there will not be highlights on iFollow, if anyone has a good link for highlights, I'd be grateful if they put it on ja606.
The reports of the game seem a little mixed - especially about who played well. Of course, the DFP was positive about all except Okenabirhie. How was TJ-J in his limited time on the field?
On Saturday the EPL game I could watch was Everton vs. Leeds. Not great football as there were many mistakes, but a really entertaining game between two always attacking teams. At times, the Weeds were a joy to watch in their build-up play, but a poor final pass or poor finishing, let them down. Maybe they train at the Keepmoat?
I'm looking forward to Wednesday in the hope the remnants GM left behind show him what he has missed.

I thought Sims was outstanding. Whiteman, Smith and Halliday had good games. Wright and Anderson pretty solid. Left back still a major problem. What an earth does DM see in Oke. He doesn't win balls in the air, has no pace and doesn't hold the ball up. I think Taylor and Gomes back might help things. Just about deserved to win but still too sloppy and off the pace at times.

Thanks, Donaldo. I can always get the written reports, but this is the first time a CURRENT FA Cup video has played. Often older videos do play - such as the first round between Posh and Oxford. However, never got live football to play except occasionally when it is only non-league teams involved. There must be some strange licensing agreements out there!
Thanks, Nookie, for your player comments. So far, I'm a fan of Sims, and hope we can keep him in January. Perhaps it could be a case like Whiteman's was - if you want to keep him, buy him!

Further thoughts. The back 4 should be always be Halliday,Wright,Anderson and James for now. James isnt a midfield player. Id try Cameron John as front man rather than Okenabirhie! Sims ,Smith and Whiteman are class players, Gomes if back to his early season form. Keep Lumley. Work in progress with the rest. Copps on the bench always

Interesting comments in retrospect. We all probably thought that with such a good start, things could only get better yet they have stuttered to say the least. Can it be explained by the injuries to the loanees, Gomes and Taylor? We might have said yes, perhaps, except that we got SIms and Smith around the same time.

Taylor obviously is a handful on one wing with Sims on the other and thereby when they are both in the team we are strong right across the pitch allowing Richards, Gomes etc more room up the middle. Gomes certainly provided some nice touches after he came on yesterday, J-J didn't really get going and as Nookie says we need a proper left back like James who tends to roam around a bit aimlessly when he plays in the middle. We didn't see enough of Tulloch to judge his qualities, but another lively presence up front certainly provides more for the opposition to think about. John does seem comfortable up front and Oke needs a rest.

So perhaps there are reasons not to be too pessimistic, although Hull away (who put out 10 reserves against Stevenage) will be the biggest test yet.

Congratulations to Nookie who. punlessly, so in serious concentration mode made his 100% Carlisle prediction, the first bonus of the season to put him comfortably at the top of the table.

You must think I've got it in for you Mooli. I gave the 3 points to King Chomper in the box below. I've amended it and the correct carry forward will show next time.
