On Sunday Wolves travel to Merseyside to take on champions Liverpool.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been outspoken about fixture congestion. After playing Brighton at lunchtime on Saturday having played a Champions league game on the previous Wednesday evening.

Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo knows all about fixture congestion having had to cope with it last season when Wolves were playing Europa League games. No doubt Nuno will feel some sympathy for Klopp but will nevertheless do whatever he can to take something from this game.

Wolves ex-player Diogo Jota will be facing his old club for the first time since his big money transfer to Merseyside. Jota has proved to be value for money since making his move having scored nine goals in his 14 appearances for Liverpool, scoring eight goals in his past eight games.

Ex-Liverpool youngster Ki-Jana Hoever will no doubt take his usual place on the Wolves bench but barring an injury to right wing-back Nelson Semedo, it is unlikely that the Dutchman will get any game time having made just 2 second half substitute appearances in the Premier League since signing for Wolves.

Wolves have one fresh injury concern with striker Raul Jimenez joining long term absentee Jonny Castro Otto. Jimenez sustained a fractured skull on Sunday after a clash of heads with Arsenal’s David Luiz. Jurgen Klopp has a growing number of injured players with James Milner having suffered a hamstring injury in the game against Brighton added to the sick list which includes Thiago Alcantara, Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Xherdan Shaqiri, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Naby Keita.

The last time Wolves beat Liverpool in the league was a 1-0 victory at Anfield on December 29th 2010. Since then, Wolves have beaten the Reds twice in the FA Cup, in January 2017 and January 2019. Both games finished with a 2-1 scoreline.

Wolves have a full week to train for this game and to refine their newly introduced playing style albeit without their star striker. Jurgen Klopp does not have that luxury and despite his depleted squad, he has a Champions League game against Ajax at Anfield on Tuesday, before hosting Wolves on Sunday evening.

The game will be shown live on Amazon Prime

The loan agreement between Wolves and Fiorentina for Cutrone is for two years with the Italians obliged to buy him if he makes 26 starts. The two clubs have now agreed to drop that clause so Fiorentina can buy him at any time for €16m. Trouble is neither club really wants him but there may be some salvation as Bologna would evidently like to buy him if a fee can be agreed

Can't say I understand all the apathy toward Cutrone from clubs? He looked a decent player to me and bust a bollok for the cause. Have to assume he is a bit of a problem of the pitch temperament wise.

Main problem is being a goal scorer that doesn't score goals ..... wise

Perhaps if we sold him to Liverpool.
Worked with Jota.

The problem for too long has been the way in which we set up and play, rather than a problem with any particular striker.

We need to try and play further up the pitch and get more bodies into the oppositions penalty box.

Starting tonight, because Liverpool are there for the taking with their current defensive issues.

Seems like today might be the first time we play in that strange blue and white kit

Why can’t we use our first choice strip? Aren’t we allowed to wear Gold and Black?

It'll be some nonsense to do with some obscure 3rd shirt sponser wanting to get their money's worth.

I’m sure sponsorship will be a factor including the arrangement with the shirt sponsor. This blue and white strip is actually our second strip, it’s just that the 3rd strip, that Portuguese style one, has proved to be more popular

No clash at all with old gold of course and I’m not sure we clash with any team in the division this season other than some black shorts

What the hell is the matter with Wilfred Zaha? He just scored a cracker against Boggies but his face looks as if he's just been told he only has 2 weeks to live
