Best commentator on MOTD since 1980's

Some will disagree but IMO it's Barry Davies, next best is John Motson and since he retired Guy Mowbray has gotta be the best.

Barry Davies is a top class commentator on a few other sports - I rarely ever watch hockey but still remember Great Britain winning gold medal in final of 1988 Summer Olympics - "And where were the Germans? But frankly, who cares!"

I couldn’t stand motsons voice or commentary ever, Whiney, high pitched and behind the play,

He keeps popping up on talksport. He plays a caricature of himself. He’s odd.

Yeh Barry Davies and Motty the best couple by far, Davies revealed after he retired that he is a lifelong Spurs fan, but you would never have known listening to his commentary.

Barry Davies is hugely underrated plus by all accounts a much, much nicer person than Motson and presumably a more humble character. Motson was great but most commentators are judged by their famous lines and his only one really is "the crazy gang have beaten the culture club" after Wimbledon won the cup. Davies has so much more. "Is Gascoigne gonna have a crack..." "look at his face, just look at his face". He has so many.

I think it depends on your age as well. I'm 40 now so I remember when we only had a handful of comms, which made them more famous. Now every game is covered there just isn't that one or two famous voices anymore. Martin Tyler defo deserves a mention as he's been at the top of his game for years and knows his stuff. He's still the best we currently have.

Special mention to Brian Moore though. He's always been in the shadow of Motty and Davies but he was brilliant too. Aside from Tyler I can't really say there are any dominant ones any more.

Barry Davis the all time great.
Would’ve loved to have seen Murray Walker do a game.. could you imagine.

John Motson or Barry Davies with Trevor Booking in the co-commentry spot was the best there was and best there will ever be. Funk your Neville's and Spitters. Andy Gray was the worst co - comm by some distance.

Motson and Davies were brilliant.

Can't stand today's commentators, particularly the guy on Sky, who just babbles on about pointless statistics and worthless comparisons with previous games, rather than commentating on what is actually happening on the pitch.

When someone scores, he is so over the top. Yeah he's the Agerooooooo guy.

Most irritating, he always ( and I mean always ) finds a way to mention that one of the two teams playing beat Spurs at some point in the past.

Bring back Brian Moore.

Also, not even a mention of Clive Tyldesley, which makes me happy. I'd lump him in with Jonathan Pearce and all of the female commentators on MOTD. Woeful.

Andy Gray was the best co-comm there's even been in my opinion.
