Bamford for England?

Just had another look at Bamford's goal against Chelsea. Everything about it is exquisite. The weight on KP's pass to open the defence is razor sharp. But the diagonal run from Bamford as he accelerates between two world class defenders, Zouma and Thiago, is as incisive as a surgeon's scalpel. He beats the onrushing Mendy to the ball, slipping it past him as though he isn't there. He is now in on goal at full tilt, but still finds the composure to guide the ball into the bottom corner with lazar precision. It looks even better if you adjust the playback speed to 0.5 in the settings.

This is a different player to the one we saw in the Championship. Not one of his 16 goals last season comes anywhere near to the quality of this one. See for yourself, below. It's a goal you would expect of a Vardy or a Kane, but Bamford? He is now level with Vardy and Salah in the scoring charts, and without his goals, we would be fighting it out at the bottom of the table.
He has come in for a lot of stick these past couple of years, but what we are seeing is a completely different player, someone who is not only comfortable in this league, but who has the makings of a world class striker.
Bamford for England may have sounded ironic last season, but if he continues in his current vein, it can't be long before Southgate makes that call.

Phillips is the only Leeds player that has a chance of getting in the squad for the Euros. Their other English players are well down the pecking order.

Southgate has name checked Bamford as someone he is looking at, so I would say he has a chance

A very slim one. The third striker will be between Ings and Abraham.

The comparison between KP and Bamford is an interesting one because we knew, over the past two seasons how good KP can be. We are just starting to see how good Bamford can be. Both players are enjoying a lot of success, attracting attention from the England manager and no doubt, a few suitors from the Premier League and beyond.. In Bamford's case, the definition of success is much narrower than for Phillips. He gets judged on goals scored, and right now, he is right up there with the best of them. He is scoring fantastic goals this season, while his all round play is much more relaxed, and decisive. The only question left, which he will answer, is how much better can he get, but the explosive improvement in his game in the space of a few months suggests there is much more to come.

Good & fair points made about PB...... lets see. I hope he can just get better and better, means we'll be doing okay.

As much as I'd love to see Bamford score for England, purely to give me rattle points with my pals, I just can't see it.

if he did.. it would be another huge nod to Bielsa.

Bamford for England, been thinking it for a while:

If you're continually scoring AND putting in this massive effort, must be on the radar.

.. actually agree, he may be on the radar, do find it amusing you took the time to 'prove' you said it..

can't see you posting that article you made about Pulis being better than Beilsa, or what a tower of strength Eddie is

you are a one J-dog - we love you just the way you are pal

You and me against the world, Jonty. I have bet a six-pack that Bamford will be in the top 5 Premier League goalscorers this season, and I am not expecting to go thirsty.

As well as he’s doing for Leeds he misses loads of easy chances, Ings is miles better and Abraham plays for Chelsea so he will be picked before him as well.

He's defied his critics in delivering regularly this season and some real quality too. If he keeps scoring this regularly and who knows an injury or 2 to England squad, would be amazing to see him join that squad.
