Dale Stephens is closing in on a return for Burnley but Monday's clash with Wolves may come too soon for the midfielder.

A hamstring injury has restricted his involvement since a September switch from Brighton and yet he could have a part to play over the festive period, which is also the case for defender Phil Bardsley (rib), who was back on the bench at Aston Villa on Thursday

Sean Dyche remains without Johann Berg Gudmundsson (hamstring) and Jack Cork (ankle), but the duo are edging closer to being back in contention again.

Wolves could be without Leander Dendoncker and Willy Boly.
Both players picked up injuries during the victory over Chelsea in midweek and, although boss Nuno Espirito Santo was cagey regarding their fitness on Friday, he said Tuesday's match had left him with some problems.

Joao Moutinho is available again following suspension but Raul Jimenez (fractured skull) and Jonny (knee) remain sidelined.

Having a miserable season but still find ourselves 13 points ahead of Albion

Oh dear. That's the measure of a good season.

We were bound to hit some bad luck with injuries at some stage, and they've hit us at a time when some of our younger squad members haven't had time to develop their game quite to the level required. The experience of the last few games will be invaluable to Silva, Otasowie and Ait Nouri but they're not at the stage yet where they can seamlessly step in without affecting the overall quality of the side. The wisdom of letting players move on before replacements were ready to step up can certainly be debated.

And I agree with wolfie to a degree, I said at the start of the season we that this might be season of consolidation, one where we take a step back and to the side to get on another path to progression. It certainly feels that way 14 games in, but equally its frustrating that but for a little more ambition and fewer errors we could easily be 4 or 5 points better off.

On the bigger picture, its clear that the strategy is not to go splashing the cash on huge squad full of galacticos at this stage of the clubs development, it's going to be more incremental. I see the various shades of opinion on Twitter & MM and although yes last night was desperately frustrating, I do think we are generally heading in the right direction still unlike many who cant handle the set backs along this rocky road .

I personally don't have an issue with this being a transitional season to a degree, though not entirely sure the timing was right given the state of some of the traditional big six and the genuine chance we have to break that top six or even five.

The concern I have right now though is that for the first time it feels a little like Nuno is reaching desperation mode and making some frankly silly, unnecessary mistakes.

As long as we play three at the back we are never going to have any creativity in midfield AND a center forward, the only way that happens is if we go to a back four given how cautious Nuno is in setting up. Dyche must have peed his pants when he saw how we had set up yesterday as well, he couldn't have picked it better.

Ethical Conundrums

If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there, does it still make a sound?

When the bogg1e5 get relegated and nobody is there, will they have really ever been in the Premier League?

Sell your best players and replace them with a £36 million teenager with no track record. Sounds like a recipe for success!

Let Gareth Barry retire without replacing him.

Sounds like a recipe for relegation?

Because you're taking please out of being so many points ahead of us. I'd be gutted if I was a Wolves fan. The richest owners this side of Neptune and you're mediocre, verging on poor!
