Forest v Brum Match Thread

Boxing Day: 3pm K.O

This could well be the perfect opportunity to notch up another 3 points and pull another contender down into the relegation dogfight.

Birmingham have been coached by Aitor Karanka since July and Karanka is bemused by their changeable form. Brum have just lost 3 on the bounce, latterly suffering a 1-4 hammering at home by the Brough.
Their two most notable victories coming against Reading and Bristol City; they've also lost to the usual suspects, the same as us, but also Wycombe Wanders, a team playing in a concrete overcoat if ever there was one?

Karanka seems to pick more or less a settled side so it depends which side of the bed the players arose from on any given match day as to how they perform!

Goals are spread out evenly amongst the team with no one as yet scoring more than 2!

Agree Dave. One positive is the youth set up which is doing well for a club of our size and position

I can’t understand why we get passed off the park by just about every side we play against, right from the whistle. We hoof the ball high in the air when clearing our lines, instead of at least trying to find somebody on our side. Inevitably it ends up falling to the feet of the opposition, putting us right back in trouble again. We really aren’t very good and we have to hope that Chris Hughton can fix it.

A lack of creativity and leadership will always put you under pressure, unfortunately we lack both, we need a Henri Lansbury type player. Today, at home to a team who were there to be beaten, we went with a defensive mind set, yes we didn’t lose, we didn’t concede, we are three unbeaten, so why don’t feel confident ?? As supporters we have hope and expectation and quite simply we are grossly under achieving. Less than half way through the season and the best we are hoping for is to not be relegated, tbh that just isn’t good enough.

Despite Figs not ishting it up for once, Soh is a far better passer of the ball. I think that stifled our midfield (being hoofed) between their defence and midfield over and over again.

None of our players made runs todajy. It was all
backwards and sideways passing. Probably the angriest I’ve been watching Forest for a long time.

Through injury or plain awfulness we’ve turned promising signings into this. Or, were they simply not promising.

My Brighton mate said that they got rid of CH as it was dull and they created nothing. That’s exactly what we are.

2 main reasons as to why we are we we are....AGAIN

1. The massive influx of players over the past couple of years is always going to be unsettling - no consistency in the setup and so that his obviously going to impact on the consistency in performances

2. The mediocre/poor quality of the vast majority of players we’ve bought in - we’ve sold small gems of quality and replaced with a lot of underachievers

Again there is a no consistency whatsoever within the club from top to bottom and that is why we are witnessing such inconsistent performances

The players, the club, the management and the owner should all be working towards a common goal. Much like Norwich for example. You can see the unity between their players, between players and the manager, but above all, the unity between owners and the club as a whole.
Delia has become one of the best football club owners in the country, so proficient that one almost forgets that she made her name in cooking.
Enough about Norwich, but there is definitely a common denominator to point to at NFFC.

A lot is being said about lack of creativity and poor passing which is true. But I think the cause of both is a lack of confidence which comes with being in the relegation zone (chicken and egg?).

Eight of yesterday's starting eleven were regular members of the squad when we looked like play-off candidates 12 months ago. They can play a lot better than they are doing at the moment. And it's up to the manager and coaches to sort it out. We have good replacements for those who have left; we don't need more players; they will just cause dressing room unrest. We don't even need to recall players who are out on loan.

I thought a good performance and win yesterday would have been a big confidence boost. I think the same about Tuesday at Stoke, but it will be harder to come by

I’d say other than McKenna and Soh, none of the players have improved us.

Diallo - pointless
Christie - never going to be as good as cash
Blackett - 4th or 5th choice
Iannou - cannot displace Bong / Ribeiro
Arter, Bachirou, Cafu, Colback - none with Watson’s passing or Silva’s creativity.
Knockaert - surely leaving. We needed Grosicki
Freeman - woeful
Taylor - limited

People banging on about Yates like Sarah from the Post. He can’t score and he can’t pass.

Imo we needed a CM (Johnson), an AM (?) and Grosicki if he’ll still come.

Oh...and a new manager. CH is awful. SL at least had us creating more.

What a waste of a season. AGAIN.

Mornin, the only bit of the above I would disagree with is Grosicki, we tried twice, he obviously isn’t that bothered, look elsewhere, it’s not as if he is anything special. Apparently we have little or no money for January recruitment, hardly surprising the way we have squandered cash, no way we will pay £5m for Knockaert.

Mornin, Dave, I agree with Dave, don't sign Grosicki; we'd be repeating the same mistake we have made countless times. Signing an over 30 player on a long term contract on high wages who is happy to join the bomb squad for the rest of his career.. We are known for it. Thats why we get so many has beens.

We would never get anyone as good as Cash, but Christie is OK. He just happens to be the one the boo boys scapegoat when Figs is not in the team.

Taylor is a major upgrade on da Costa.
