Remember when.........

We took Lampard on a season and a half ago and blooded a load of kids we (mostly) understood the reasons why and accepted that we were building for the future.

The club have backed Frank in the summer by bringing in largely young players (Standfast Silva) again with a view to the future. The nucleus of the squad now, are either academy players or players new to the country and league

We accepted that with a novice manager and young squad there would be inconsistencies in performance, as we’ve seen in the last few weeks, so why does this appear to be now overtaken by a wave of despondency? Have the successes of last season raised the expectancy level prematurely?

I’m as disappointed as anyone (I always am when we lose) over tonights performance, however I shall try to tamper that with the reality that we are, in my opinion, ahead of the curve of where I expected us to be and not get too down as I didn’t let myself get too over excited when things were going relatively well.

I’m going to put my head above the parapet and say I think this group of players will bring us exciting and successful football over the next few years but don’t be to despondent if you don’t see what you want this season or even the season after.

The future looks bright and the future is Blue as always!

Nick I asked you from the video which ones he should’ve scored and got no reply. I certainly don’t think they were all great chances as you alluded. I also asked you to show the 2/3 chances he missed last night and the 3 previous games. You haven’t. I listen and if you bs I’ll call it. I’ve given you an article I’ve read this morning from someone who follows Chelsea closely and writes about them. His viewpoint mirrors my own thus making your assertion that Werner is not playing wide questionable. Have your opinion but back it up.

Every single one he should have scored imo. Maybe other than when he hit the bar

That video also doesn’t include, as exgoals don’t, the times that he has had a cross on a plate and not reached it. Tammy crossed one in for him against West Ham and he just fell over. Any competent striker finishes it. The guys awful

Also be interested to see what the expected goals says when Werner was one on one v Newcastle, in the box, and he just passed it to nobody . That video also doesn’t Include this. When he missed from 5 yards out in Europe.

We disagree the Nick. No way is every chance a definite goal in that video. I appreciate the videos you put up and that there are some poor misses in there but that’s not the full story.

Yeah mate I wasn’t having a go, tbf I’m struggling to formulate an argument atm as I have had covid and feeling rough haha. The thing is I think people are scapegoating the whole playing on left wing when most if not all his chances are in the box and centrally, sometimes even on the right side of the box. Several strikers or forwards over the years have played slightly off the striker or wider, Henry, ronaldo at Madrid, even someone like Anelka for us. Tammy and giroud have actually done well to get Werner space to go in behind and in tammys case actually put some decent crosses in for Werner to tap in. Yet he has failed to do so. I personally think it’s a cop out, that’s all.

Timo Werner is actually 17th for shots per game. Considering none of those come from out the box that is ridiculously high.
