Mixture of positives and negatives

With all the doom and gloom on here I thought I’d take an objective look at the positives and negatives from yesterday’s game.

Positives:
We didn’t lose

Negatives:
Winks is an absolute waste of a shirt in our midfield. He can do three things - receive the ball and pass sideways, make a forward pass that doesn’t reach the intended recipient, or drop deep and call for the ball before passing it immediately back to the same player and pointing at where they should pass.

Sanchez will never be good enough. Weak in the air, his headers just go straight up in the air. Terrible passer. Poor reading of the game.

Mourinho may be be telling the truth when he says he’s not asking players to drop deep, but I think he’s instilled in them that their main duty is to be defensively solid and they’re scared of getting chewed out if they’re too adventurous and it costs us.

Despite being so defensively focussed, somehow we cannot defend set pieces for our lives and it’s costing us points with alarming regularity.

Jose clearly really does not rate Vinicius, so once again Kane is being run into the ground, and it’s already starting to show in his play - was sluggish and wanted far too long on the ball yesterday.

So, a mix of positives and negatives really...

Add ndombele to the positive list.

Add the ridiculous decision from Jose to replace him with Sissoko to the negatives...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not for me how he plays is a positive but that he can't do more than an hour by now is disgraceful.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He can do more than an hour, our incompetent manager just doesn't let him.

Just before he was subbed he beat three players and nearly played Son in...

Sorry, Don - I don't mean to rub you up the wrong way, but for all that Spurs won a couple of league titles back when Sandy was still in primary school, Spurs have been in that second tier of clubs just below the elite for as long as I can remember (I'm 52). That includes when you won UEFA Cups and FA Cups.

For about as long as I've been alive or are able to remember, status-wise there's always been Liverpool, Arsenal and United, and then the rest. The exceptions to the rule have mainly been thanks to mega-cash injections and, very, very occasionally, everything coming together for another of the clubs below the very top tier.

I can see you might think "Why can't it be us for once?", but it relies on a string of things coming together, and some of them don't depend on your club alone. You have to be very fortunate for everything to come together just at the right time. You're only leading yourself to misery if you live in that hope and that hope alone.

Maybe like I say nothing to do with his ability if that is the case and he just makes the same substitution at the same time every game then that's a disgrace.

Something has to change and quick. This style of football is the worst iv seen from any team in the PL, ever. I genuinely mean that.

We focus on defending but can't do it. It's unnacc8thr amount of late goals we concede.

Im so angry at the moment.

I promise you we won't be winning a trophy this season. As a result, we will be served up this absolute dross for no reward.

The club is an absolute failure from top to bottom. Not one thing to be positive about. I have no idea what direction we are going in.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Bake em. The clubs been a failure for years mate. All that excitement over the Poch years, we got literally nothing out of it, apart from a couple of bottle job finals. I’m still so f^^ off about the CL final, I don’t think I have gotten over it. Under Mourinho I finally thought we might have changed slightly, but this month has seriously made me lose hope that I will probably never see Spurs win anything in my lifetime and I’m 34 years of age ffs 🤦‍♂️ Literally don’t think Spurs will ever amount to anything as a club
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Does leave you feeling that we never get it quite right. 🤣

Honestly mate never. I’m pretty certain we could end up being the only club in Jose Mourinho’s management history to not win a trophy. If that ain’t Spursy, I don’t know what is

Nope sorry mate. I’m not saying we are elite Barca or United. Never have I said that, but we should be expecting more trophies than 1 measily league cup in over 20 years. I’m sorry, but our club is much bigger than this and it’s not like we haven’t been close is it? We got to the CL final ffs and have been challenging the league a few times, so you can’t sit there and say to me, Spurs shouldn’t be expecting trophies Just because we ain’t an elite club. Yes we should, we are a big club i don’t care what you say. We got one of the best stadiums and training complexes in the world. This club should be winning trophies and they simply are immune to winning them. It p** me right off.

Yeah, I get that, and I get that it has to be frustrating too. It's just that I think that there's a series of factors beyond your control and that you can't really legislate for. For example, Spurs were probably the best placed to benefit from all of the big boys having an off year when Leicester won the title. What they achieved that season was an absolute freak of nature.

The CL final made more sense to lose, imo. Regardless of how both teams had done that season, it's a fairly normal outcome for a club that's been in that position before to wind up with the trophy, even when it's a completely different set of players.

Spot on. I am older than you and have been following Spurs since the late 1970's. We all hope, but the truth is Spurs are not a recognised trophy winner, particularly the Title.

We have come close realistically in only two seasons since the '61 double team.
1984/5, when they were in the mix until the last few weeks when a very good Everton team pulled away. And 2016/17, when we pushed a very good Chelsea team all the way. This was Poch's team at it's height.

Outside of that, we are a consistent top 6 club, who have occasional good cup runs and enjoyed top 4 status for a few years in recent times.

But that is it.

Some people on here need to understand that following Spurs is not following one of the established title winning elite clubs, and stop getting so annoyed because we are,not top of the league and winning cups left right and centre.

Who’s saying we should be top and winning leagues every season? Most of us are just fed up of the club under achieving and they are under achieving massively. 1 league cup in over 20 years is pathetic for a club of our size. I don’t care what anyone says, us Spurs supporters should be seeing our club win a lot more. We have infrastructure. Stadium, training complex , fan base etc etc. No way can anyone tell me 1 league cup in over 20 years is Spurs level not our history. I’m not having that. Weak losers mentality.
