*I may have missed the odd budget signing- there have been that many stabs from Victor.
Its long been a discussion on here regarding Victors scattergun approach. Plucking players out of every corner of the world for next to nothing fees but often lengthy contracts the more financially astute posters on here often aimed pelters at Victor for wasting millions (me included)
The arguments have died as Leeds have soared and those many transfers now seem so less important whilst we enjoy the lucrative Premier money.
The point of the thread however, is to ask the question - have we found a player who may pay for all the transfers, wages and agent fees?
Step up Pascal Strujik. Not so keen on this lad playing cdm but he has put in two very good performances and 2 clean sheets. Thought he had the odd dodgy moment v Burnley with distribution but tonight he was picking some lovely balls right through the middle of the field dissecting West Brom. Defensively he has been solid. Only just turned 21 and time still to improve. He may well be the one that comes through into a very worthwhile asset?
Orta's last laugh?

Orta cant scout a descent player but can scout a half descent manager

Orta done a wonderful job these last few seasons. Struijk looks a star, but plenty others impressing for the youth teams at the moment, namely Greenwood, Gelhardt, McKinstry, and the U23s and youth level has benefited from that investment.

The u23’s were ripped apart by Cellino and on its knees.
Since Orta came in we have won the league, got promoted to the Premier League 2 and we now currently sit top of that.
He’s worked wonders with it, and brought us Bielsa

Long time since we’ve had an Orta article on here.
Overall, very good job.

What a stupid comment

I think it's a bit disingenuous to conflate players who are very clearly brought in with the aim of building up the academy as some sort of disastrous first team transfer policy, or expect a similar hit rate to first team signings.
It's enabled some pretty basic stuff like players playing in the appropriate age group and not 3 years ahead of their ability just to make up the numbers.

I'd keep Struijik playing over Cooper based on the last two games.

Orta had a pretty awful first season. With some notable exceptions.
Since then I think he’s been brilliant.
It’s impossible not to make mistake. Players aren’t robots.
If you were to compare the total value of the players he’s signed compared to the value of all the fees we will certainly be in a sizeable credit.
He has also admitted he and the club the got the approach wrong first season and changed it completely after that. That should be praised

Radz knew nothing about running a football club... everything we did that first year was on orta’s recommendation - Christiansen, heck. Prioritising a long term academy strategy that suits a Prem club with Prem finances over first team short comings and proven coach. That’s not hindsight, a number of us said it at the time.
To his credit, he revised it and the club took what (given his history) was a gamble on bielsa- one that has paid off hugely and for which the senior management team had to relinquish a lot of control and let bielsa - with some of his quirks - have a free rein. You have to credit radz, orta and kinnear for not just getting him but keeping him happy.
To me that’s Orta’s primary legacy at Leeds. He helped turn around his own misguided strategy. We should all be grateful for that.
