Eric Bailly

No question he's a better all-around defender than Lindelof. And over the last two matches it looks like he's forming a pretty good partnership with Maguire.
I wonder what the general opinion on him is amongst our fans but I'd rather have an old fashioned CB who can defend , doesn't back down from a physical battle , doesn't get bullied and not afraid to get dirty than one who can pass the ball but can't necessarily defend.

Hence , I've always preferred Bailly over Lindelof.

Just realised that those figures above mean that Phil Jones has actually played more games per season than Bailly

That’s how much of a crock Bailly is.

I think it ended up being £20m due to add ons. Think we had to pay Blackburn when we won the prem. The bloke has been stealing a living. But then I can’t blame him, we keep extending his contract.

OP, I was addressing BK’s post, not you.

Bailly's more erratic. He'll be a 9 out of 10 and then out of nowhere do something ridiculous, switch off randomly or vanish into thin air injured for 3 months. He can't be relied on but at his best he's better than Lindelof in my view.

I'd say that's probably about right. But quite simply a defender who has as many brain farts as Bailly does is just not a very good defender, regardless of how good he is capable of being.

He would need to have a solid few months to maybe start to change my mind, but he won't because of how brittle he is.

Lindelof and Maguire may be our most "steady" and "dependable" CB's.

But they together are not good enough.

Let's not forget our defence is one of the worst in the league in terms of goals conceeded. We're up there with the likes of newcastle and fulham.

I refuse to believe there isn't a combination at the club that is not better than Maguire and Lindelof.

Personally I'd play Bailly and Tuanzebe for the next 10 games and I'm confident we wouldn't have the relegation level defence we currently have.

OK I'm exagerrating but finding a good CB in January will be impossible and we need to change combinations now in order to improve.

Heck chuck McT and Matic in there as long as it's not Maguire and Lindelof.

Not fickle just honest. 120m on awb and Maguire and both are average.

Awb is poor attacking. He’s poor positionally and not best at sensing danger. Maguire is slow and not that good tbh. He’s not world class or elite and cost 80m. Both won’t ever amount to anything.

I’d play Bailey next to lindelof and buy a new cb ASAP and bin awb and buy a new full back but got mean time play Tuanzebe there.

Whereas with Bailly we might get the odd brain fart

With Maguire we get mistakes simply due to his lack of quality

Much of a muchness really, pick your poison

Bailly allows us to play a high line which reduces the gap between our midfield and defence and improves our desire to press.

With Maguire we're always covering for him and staying too deep.

He's usually dramatic and over the top.

But he is right that Maguire is slow and not a top CB.

And he's right that AWB is poor attack-wise and limits us going forward. He's also poor aerially and positionally. His one on one defending is superb but not needed in every game.

Both of these things Ole knew about when he signed them. It's not a surprise. They don't fit us our systems and were poor purchases.

Love Bailly but sadly the minute we start getting excited about how good he is he ends up injured

so he will probably be out injured now till may
