The current squad and manager

This window I can't see us buying anyone important.
I am quite content with AWB, and have said boringly often what we really need is a good right winger.
My viewpoint is this, the defence is instantly stronger if the fullbacks main job is to defend. Off course they have to back up the winger, make overlapping runs etc. But wingers play a vital role, or should do. They make the pitch wide, give more room behind the oppos defence, they should be able to deliver a good croos, and one from the byeline going away from the defenders and towards the attackers. We need to keep three midfielders, so cannot have two strikers; But in the past wingers had to act as auxilliary strikers, good wingers can chip in with fifteen goals a season, Connelly used to get twenty as well as loads of assists.

The midfield I would like to see one who plays close to the striker, good passer, gets twenty a season, but helps with pressing.
One a real box to box, hard to find but great when you do. McT might grow into this role.
One a defensive mf, like Carrick but with speed and tackling. Kante come to mind but we haven't got him.

Ole, doing fine in my book, quelle surprise. But If we were near the bottom I wouldn't be saying that. If he was a failure I would want him gone as much as the next man.
But he isn't imo,he's quietly rebuilding the squad and team, it seems to me he has the backing of the players, so he gives me hope for a good future;
The main criticism is that he hasn't the pedigree, well I think it's better to looke at what he is doing/achieving rather than his pedigree, chum.

The current squad has a right winger that's more than capable.

Not a priority.

Priorities are (in order of priority) are:

A goalkeeper
Cover for Cavani - won't win often enough without
Support for Maguire - will lose too often without

Midfield is as strong as this current EPL needs it to be.

Funny thing is Ole's formation at the beginning preferred defensive minded fullbacks. Shaw and AWB have been his chosen fullbacks for their defensive abilities. Its also why he always felt comfortable leaving 3 up front to counter attack. This is also why Shaw coming in as a sub us a key sub to him
because it means the teams has started pressing and his base formation can be used.

But people adjusted and sit back on us so the full backs need to support the attack. The tactical response is attacking full backs. We need one.

I guess we can only cry failure if he’s sacked - because he only fails when the journey is over. So yes, I imagine if he fails you would want him gone.

I don’t remember you saying you wanted him gone when we were near the bottom though? Although, I haven’t read all of your comments on here, I’m sure.

But good article. My only worry is the roller-coaster we are on.

He puts together some spectacularly good runs, but some equally spectacularly bad runs.

I’ll stick to 6-monthly-flip-flopping I think.

It's easy to make suggestions sitting on a couch, however I think we maybe missing a trick.

I think with cavani and Mason we have strikers for now. What I would like to see is rashy and martial on the wings with one of cavani or mason up front.

I know rashy has good stats and if he continues to score from out wide I think it makes for a better team, possibly.

Martial is great running with the ball but can't hit a barn door currently.

Mason is wasted out wide imo and isn't involved for large parts of the game.

If we can get him and Cavani scoring and rashy and martial and bruno chipping in then imo we are more complete as a team.

Think that would take pressure off AWB and shaw/telles too.

One of the benefits of Ole was how well he had promoted the youth, because Mason banged a few in and Williams was a tenacious little fcker.

But I don’t think he’s done that great with those two

McT, deffo.

As I said mat easy on the couch, talking about me here.

I think with the pressure and constant media attention it's hard to experiment. Easier to ease in players when winning but a risk if not doing great. Then sticking to what you think works

Reminds me of likes of liverpool with michael owen etc.

Youngster does good so gets run into the ground.
