Transfer Priority?

Tomorrow the transfer window SLAMS open. We have got off to a flier by getting the fat lad who ambles about on the left side of the pitch sometimes out. Hopefully a few more will follow.
Historically we have done some good business in January. Jose Antonio Reyes, Andrey Arshavin, Emmanuel Adebayor and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang just a few who arrived in the winter window.

What do you see as our priority positions to make a signing?

1 - Midfielder - Unfortunately our star summer signing Thomas Partey has barely played, but we still need to find the pefect partner for him. Rumours that Dani Ceballos loan could be cut short, which will add to the urgency. Boubakary Soumare would fit the bill.

2 - Back up keeper - If Leno gets injured then we are in the shiiit. Runar Runarsson is the worst 'keeper I have ever seen, and Matt Macey is awful. None of the youngsters are close. I'd even take someone like Fraser Forster to sit on the bench, or even Matt Ryan from Brighton.

3 - Attacking midfielder - Some will have this as number 1, but I feel if we get Partey fit and the right partner for him then we would become a more effective attacking team from that. Talk of Isco or Eriksen fills me with little enthusiasm.

There is talk of Mikel Arteta prioritising a right sided CB, but as it stands we have a lot of defenders so I would happily let that ride until the summer.
Maybe we could add a different style striker to the mix, but again I would let the attack go until the summer, giving the likes of Smith-Rowe, Martinelli, Nelson and (if he signs a contract) Balogun the chance to show their talent.

Torreira is good enough for the Arsenal squad. Would slot in nicely alongside Partey

I'd prefer seeing him alongside Partey than Elneny for example.

And WB2, bro, please stop writing essays, wanted to join discussion but got tired when I saw so much text on each comment.

Well if people didn't always fail to understand and force me to explain anyway, when I write short comments, then I wouldn't feel the need to write long ones trying to avoid that now would I.

What I see here is the scrap heaping of players who earned the right to have their shot in the 1st team now. In a rush job to promote two kids who can't possibly stand up to the PL schedule, long term anyway, into weekly starts because people reckon they'll save the team .

"Martinelli and Saka look really good so stuff the others" It's madness to only leave ourselves with Pepe, Willian, Saka and Martinelli. I don't wanna be relying on Willian at any point this season and I reckon Pepe's got at least one more ban in him. ESR is for the middle, so Willock or Nelson needs to stay.

Loaning a player so he is in best position to perform next season isnt scrap heaping.

We wouldn't be left with just those 4. Firstly Auba is there, then you have AMN who says it is his best position, then a lot of talk of a new signing. ESR is not solely "for the middle" .

Reiss Nelson has made the bench twice in the PL season despite being available for most of it. How can you look at that stat and think Nelson is going to start the majority of games for the rest of the season, or even a significant number to make him staying worthwhile? Especially when 2 of the players in the XI now have only just returned from injury are younger, performed better and have the obvious trust of the manager?

3 years of not much football will have stunted his development.

What the hell are you talking about putting them on the scrap heap, WB2?!

We’re talking about loaning them to help their development, so they either come back to us next season, much readier to play and contribute, or else they’ve hopefully at least played at their loan clubs, and added some value for when we move them on.

Whereas your option would have them sit on the bench (if that) for the remainder of the season, meaning come next summer they will have developed far less than they might’ve done playing elsewhere, and no doubt worth less to us then than they are now.

Remember, Martinelli was always likely to come back into the first team once he was fit. The only youngster playing for us now that we might not have expected to be doing so, is Smith Rowe.

Like most I’m f/cked off we signed Willian, but he’s not going on loan, so unless Pepe does, Nelson will have to. Same as Nketiah and Willock.

Otherwise, come next summer, they’ll all most likely end up on our scrap heap. And none of us want that.

Except Pete.

I do wonder if it weren't for the Europa each season, the likes of Willock, Nelson and Nketiah would have had more loans. The fact Willock has never had a loan is against the grain of a lot of players developments.

Or, more succinctly, what DJ said.

Yeah, no doubt had we not dropped out of the CL (or rather not dropped into the EL) Eddie, Joe and Reiss wouldn’t have had any sort of look at Arsenal.

Tbh Eddie and Joe would have probably been sold by now.

If I thought for one second that Arteta actually had intention of letting AMN play at RW/LW/CAM then I'd be fine with it. But Arteta's ing AMN off big-time so that ain't happening is it. And you know (or at least heavily suspect it) yourself too. Also, who has or hasn't started or been on the bench this season, is no reflection on their ability. Not when we're seeing this much blatant favouritism in plain sight. Something the ownership should be pulling the manager up about now.

I can only go by the games he got tail of last season and his Europa ones this one. For me, all were performances from him personally, that see me far more preferring the idea of keeping him here sharing time with the others. But that's because I believe neither Saka or Martinelli should be seeing 90 min sittings in PL games, with any regularity, just yet. You're talking to someone here whom would ban clubs from doing this to youngsters by placing far greater restrictions on the amount that any club could use their U21s in 1st team action.
