reality check

I was finding BT's love-in of Leeds today really rather nauseating.

Yes they playing attacking football throwing lots of men forward but it was sheer stupidity against a Spurs team who want you to do exactly that.

It was a naive approach from a hugely experienced manager. I fail to see why he is praised so much when the team plays in away against quality opposition who will simply pick you off.

Should credit be given for this style when it clearly worked against them

I can think of many times that Arsenal under Wenger were slated for "playing football" when they should have used more sense to see games out. Leeds relentless desire to attack in numbers is their undoing. Only a woeful WBA have conceded more goals.

Now Spurs could up the entertainment levels, no doubt, but not at the cost of result. If Leeds showed a bit more intelligence, picked their moments more, then they could be a really top team.

It kinda reminds me of early Poch at Spurs and Klopp at LFC. All energy and enthusiasm but ultimately an approach that was unsustainable. Both teams developed to be more selective and considered in their approach. Leeds need to do the same.

It works though

It works to a point

A whole division further than what they had been doing previously

If some newly promoted team playing like dog shiiit were 12th nobody would be questioning their style of play

like Poch at Spurs and Klopp at LFC

Well, their teams scored shedloads of goals. Leeds sends men forward and end up with zero. So its nothing like that at all.

First team this season to score 5+ in a game home and away.

Totally agree with the OP.
Due to having young kids, I only watch Spurs games.

I was really worried about today based on what I had picked up in the media and all the pre match build up.

But Leeds were so average, I was shocked! The mistakes they made were repeated and repeated.

I’m sure someone posted on here they’d want Biesla - no way.

Bielsa has taken a bang average Championship side to mid table of the Premier league. Think about that, the big boys Pep and Mourinho have always had massive financial backing. I agree there’s a certain naivety, but we don’t have the luxury of playing a different way depending on the opposition. Today we had 9 Championship players start and compare the subs...tens of millions of pounds worth come on for Spurs and we have an elder statesman and 2 kids. Until Spurs were gifted the opening goal it was fairly even, that mistake led to us being opened up easier. I like Spurs, I think you have a chance of a cup this season, but the PL is still out of reach.
Prediction: Spurs to finish 4th, Leeds 12th.

Most important for Leeds would be a top class goalkeeper for all the shots on target teams have against them. That would be worth a lot of points over a season.

Fair play to them but they play right into the hands of the better sides.

Of course you have 'the luxury' of playing a different way. You don have to bomb forward with 6 or 7 players every time. You select the moments to do this.

That's game management. I referenced Arsenal under Wenger and they were the same in that they didnt know when to stop playing and just manage the game for a moment or longer. and the mistakes that lead to.the goals were.becausenof your approach, the hughbamount of risk involved. and it happened over and over. Leeds are entertaining but will confortably stay up....my comment was really about how much gushing praise a team who lost 3-0 got when their lauded style was a key contributor to their failure.
