The managers with the most 'Genius' not the greatest;
First. Brian Clough. At Derby, a club never fashionable but old big head got a promotion; League title and semies of the european cup.
Then Nottingham Forest. Another second division team, promotion, league title, two european cups. The only manager to have won two league titles with different clubs;
All in his own inimitable way.
Second equal
Bob Paisley. In nine years won six titles, three european cups and another half dozen bits and pieces.
Everyone thought Liverpool would slide after Shanks retired, how wrong they were.
Alex Ferguson. Took Aberdeen to a league title, overtaking the big two, and then a european trophy beating Bayern Munich on the way and Real Madrid in the final.
We all know what he did at United, football bloody hell, he had a twenty year dominance and made at least three great teams. So why not first, he probably was the greatest, but Cloughie did it with two second division teams and in his own quirky way. May be I shouldn't have Sir Bob equal but what he achieved in nine years was phenominal, and I think of him as an old fashioned working man, not the star he was.
Fourth. Shanks, who didn't like him, funny, passionate, a builder of good footballing teams, and took Pool from the second division to the top.
Fifth. Arsene Wenger. Came and introduced new ways of looking after the players fitness with diet, training. Also introduced us to some great French footballers. The only serious challenger to Fergie for a while. Clever and he made his cleverness pay.
Sixth. Pep, career wise much higher, but City-wise about right. Why? because he's not won the CL; But he's won everything else, and his teams play his way.
Seventh. Alan Curbishley. Fifteen years manager of Charlton, in the fifteen years since they have had sixteen managers and not one getting them into the PL where Curbs had them most of his tenure. Go figure I would say if I was American.
That's enough from me, I dare say there will be some other suggestions, and may be even some disagreement on my choices.
But it's only opinion, no stone tablets were involved.
A relaxing New Year article

I am biased against Jose, can't think why.
Anyway when he came to Chelsea they had just come second under tinker man and was given a fortune to spend

True, but Porto and Inter?
And as Term said, Klopp took Mainz and Borussia.
I guess it’s zingy fair to include them if SAF gets his Aberdeen stuff mentioned?

Well the Aberdeen stuff is close to home. And I am a United fan. And after Brexit we aren't in Europe.

In fairness SAF would be in the running without Aberdeen.

It’s a very good list, a genuine attempt, MU52, but I feel Paisley has got to be in there somewhere. I appreciate he had left the scene before PL days, but, what a manager.
Klopp? Despite the blinding success he’s enjoyed thus far, I feel his even better days have yet to come.
And, it has to be said, for me, sadly, SAF has to be acknowledged as No.1. Cloughy was a one-off, he enjoyed fantastic success, but not to the extent Sir Alex took ManU to.

Thanks Jimmy. But have another read, I've got Bob equal with Alex, his record over nine years was incredible.
