Chelsea 1 - 3 Citizens : Player Ratings

Stones: 8 – You rub your eyes each time you watch him play because I certainly thought he would be gone this summer. It’s easy to dismiss his latest performance as Chelsea was poor but he was still facing top attackers such as Pulisic, Werner and Ziyech and dismissed them with ease. John is so crucial to building our attacks from the back and his partnership with Ederson and Rodri will show that as the season progresses.

Dias: 8 – When Fabian Delph left the club, we lost a very important character in the dressing room. Delph along with Kompany, Mendy and Walker were important members in keeping team spirits, morale and the mood perfect at City. We are down to Mendy and Walker but we have gained a character in Reuben Dias. What a player. Only 23 but his game intelligence, character and leadership is very impressive. He has raised Stones game and as ever went to help up the Englishman after he crashed into the advertising boards. Future Captain easy.

Zinchenko: 6 - A first Premier League start since July and he played very well especially in attack. Defensively lost his man quite a lot and was at fault for the goal conceded but had a good game overall.

Rodri: 5.5 – Is there a player more frustrating than this guy. There is evident progress this season especially defensively where he is intercepting and making more clearances but my word is he sloppy. He will spoil a good 10 minutes with sloppy pass or unnecessarily losing possession. He needs to appreciate this is not the Spanish league and learn to release the ball faster in certain situations.

Gundogan: 9- I called him Peps blind spot last season but I guess the manager knows his players better. He runs faster, he passes faster and his fitness blows me away. An intelligent footballer that has taken his chance and earned the respect he deserves in this team. An amazing player and will be key this season.

De Bruyne: 8.5 - Would give him a 10 but yet for another early miss where he failed to even find the target. We haven’t played well but if KDB finishes most of his chances including the Pen against Liverpool we would be top of the league. But other than that, speed of thought, game intelligence and allround awesomeness means he is still amazing and back to his best. Playing in a false 9 position he completely foxed the Chelsea CBs.

Bernardo: 8.5 - We have 3 World class players in my opinion (Ederson, Aguero, De bruyne) but there is a potential one in this guy if we find his best position and unleash him. Difficult to know how many positions he played in this game but was mainly ahead of Rodri next to Gundagon. I thought he had a brilliant game and kept things ticking over Some tidy link-ups with his compatriot Joao Cancelo. I feel he plays better from deep and hope he regains his best form.

Foden: 8.5 – Got huge praise from his manager for maintaining his wide position and not chasing the ball even after a difficult first 10 minutes. He is a huge goal threat and always seems to play better on the left. Had a nice partnership going with KDB. If he is keeping Mahrez out of the first team he is doing something well.

Sterling: 7 – Frustrating again in front of goal but played well, made some sharp incisive runs and for once protected the ball quite well. He plays better from the right and hopefully if Foden can own the left wing we will see him score more.

Substitutes

Fernandinho (for Gundogan, 75): 6 – Steady job defensively
Mahrez (for Foden, 86): Didn’t do much
Aguero (for De Bruyne, 86): Didn’t do much
Not used: Carson, Mbete, Harwood-Bellis, Mendy, Delap

Gundogan has often blown hot and cold with us, at the moment he’s hot though and if he can start doing that role on his own in more games we might just have a decent shout for the title this season.

You've got a more than decent shout, grated. I wouldn't put it past you to put a run of 8 or 9 wins together, then the pressure will really be on Liverpool.

Rodri was sound apart from a dodgy 60 seconds.

Missed opportunity to say Stones was a rock at the back.

Thought rodri played well despite making ridiculous amounts of fouls that weren’t called.
Made our toothless midfield look so poor though sssinf him Atleast make tackles

Rodri has been very good defensively. Very good. Its his sloppiness in posession and he does it every game
