massive overreaction on here

as expected after last night.

thought we played very well in parts and on the whole defended well.

many on here were doubting whether we would even make top 4 this season ( and its still possible we wont dont get me wrong) but we could be 3 points clear at the top of the table this time next week.

disappointing to go out last night but we werent playing west brom... we were up against the team everyone is creaming over at the minute and making favourites for the league. Despite being down on possession we held our own for vast parts of the game, the only difference being the class in midfield between the two teams.

the likes of mctominay and fred are great workhorses but surrender the ball too easily ( something Bruno is also very guilty of but gets a free pass on)

anyway.. the improvements are there to see... we are way ahead of where many people expected to be, and a defeat to city isnt the be all and end all of our season

that wasnt really an overreaction though mate.

ive always though Ole was taking us in the right direction.. whether he was the man to take us all the way is a different matter.

at that point in time it looked like his head was on the chopping block, but luckily for him, and us he has managed to turn it around somewhat.

It's just that it was still so early in the season for Ole to be in any real danger and at that point we'd only lost a couple of games after beating Leipzig 5-0, a game that got quite a few people really excited.

The reaction was surprising, especially given quite a lot of the people on that thread are posters I would associate with having more faith in Ole than others do.

I've never hidden the fact that I'm not a huge fan of Ole and despite our league position I'm still not that convinced by and don't particularly like certain things that I still see from game to game regardless of if we win or not, but at no stage this season do I think he's been close to or even warranted the sack.

Not sure how pointing out that:

a) man city have a better squad
b) man city easily outplayed United, and
c) United did not have the front line players that pose any kind of threat to proper defenders

.... is fresh or original information, so it isn't really any kind of "reaction" - let alone "massive" or "over".

It's just part of the reality of football - at least to those that understood the basic reality of football.

Pep saw a weak front line as an obvious weakness, and a strong midfield as the most obvious threat. His solution was simplified. He only needed a back three, and that enabled the extra legs in midfield.

As good as Fred, pogba and Fernandes are, being overwhelmed by numbers is inevitable in it's consequences.

Strikers win matches - especially cup matches - even if it's not by scoring then it's through the pressure created on the opposition by being a consistent threat. Martial and, especially, Rashford are not remotely threatening to intelligent defenders.

There's no shame in losing to city. It's simply the manner of defeat; 2 set-piece goals conceded, misfiring in attack, burning Bruno and Rashford out.

But ofcourse everyone knows this, yet some will still use the straw man argument that it's about the defeat itself.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You speak as if we were some minor club that should accept City's superiority. City beat us, not because they have better players, but because they have a better manager.

No doubt they're better coached than us, even defensively. We can't win everything, but I at least expect good performances and to have a go. We barely worked their keeper.
