Leeds Utd v Crawley Twn Matchday Thread

The good old FA Cup, Sadly this old lady of the game has lost a lot of it's status since the emergence of the "big money" games but it's still up there with the best for giving the lower league clubs their 90+ minutes of glory and of course there is always chance of an upset

Venue...The People's Pension Stadium...Date...10th Jan...Kick Off...1330hrs

Team News
Leeds United
Leeds United captain Liam Cooper is available for Sunday's FA Cup game after almost three weeks out with an abdominal injury.

Fellow centre-back Diego Llorente, who has only played once for the club because of several injuries, is available but Marcelo Bielsa says they are being "cautious" with the Spaniard.

Forward Tyler Roberts is unavailable.

Crawley Town
Crawley will make a late decision on top scorer Max Watters, who has a hamstring problem.

Match Facts
Crawley have reached the third round for the first time since 2012-13 when they were eliminated by Premier League side Reading.
Leeds have been eliminated in the third round in each of their last three campaigns, their worst run since a four-season stretch between 2003-04 and 2006-07.
Crawley have lost all of their FA Cup matches against Premier League opposition - in 2010-11 vs Man Utd, 2011-12 vs Stoke and 2012-13 vs Reading.
Leeds have lost two of their last three third-round matches as a Premier League side, most recently against Arsenal in 2003-04.

A bit from the Managers..................
Leeds boss Bielsa: "For me it [the FA Cup] represents English football in its purest form. It allows you to link with the history of the clubs in England.

"The sole fact that we have to analyse the opponent we're going to face, it allows you to take a look into League Two, the stadiums and style of play.

"Crawley are a team that responds to a direct approach and their defensive organisation is also a tradition."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Crawley manager John Yems: "I just hope Leeds donate their money back to us, which would be a very good gesture, so we can start paying for a few things.
"You wouldn't get as much as you would normally because of no crowd.
"But in the current climate, it would be nice if - like they used to in the old days - some big clubs donated a little bit back to you. But who knows?"

(being a Yorkshire Club we have a reputation to maintain so don't hold your breath but seriously it would be a nice gesture

There you go then, will it be a chance to rest a few lads and give a run out to some U23s or will MB play full strength to respect the Cup ?
No disrespect to Crawley but i think 0-3 is possible with goals from Rod Pov and Pablo

Over to You...............................Predictions etc...........................

Come Onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn Leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeds!!!

Stoopo ... please do your research ... Crawley is not in London
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s near enough for us to lose! Just South of Gatwick. That friggin London to me.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, anything south of Northampton is London to you
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Get real! South of Watford
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, the Watford Gap
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Isn’t that in Elton’s teeth?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Watford is in Hertfordshire - NW London

The Watford Gap is around junction 17 of the M1 in Northamptonshire about 75 miles further North

What a dismal, horrible matchPains me to say it but I think Bielsa's made a pig's ear of selection and substitutions. Rather have seen Caprille in goal than Kiko. Shouldn't have brought on inexperienced U-23s at half time. Depressing to see us give the ball away so regularly. Not the match for Pablo, nor Raphinha .. should've kept Rodrigo on the pitch for another 20 mins at least, still had a shot or two in him I think.

Well played Crawley...

Have to agree. He’s quoted as saying he would respect the cup. Maybe he didn’t pass it onto the players?

I expected changes but I also expected a decent bench.

I think it’s the first time he’s let us down today. I’m sure he will take the blame and I’m sure we will not suffer a hangover from this. The league is a different kettle of fish.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
I disagree Stoopo. Recent history has shown that FA Cup defeat to lower-placed clubs has often resulted in a severe drop-off in league form. We were played off the park by a bunch of part-timers - can this not affect confidence?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Had we put a full team out then I’d agree. But not with that starting 11 or finishing 11. Or any 11 at any particular time today.

Brighton play Man City mid week so just have to hope their energy levels are weakened by the time they play us and we can have a slight advantage and a good reaction performance wise to today's shocker. We can't afford to lose so at least get a point and keep the gap between us as it is.
A win and all is forgiven because as depressing defeats go in the last 20 years today's is right up there.

I couldn't give a sheet where Crawley is. The bottom line is we have yet again made ourselves a laughing stock.
I did not think we would be so poor and I am still shocked at what I witnessed. I just pray that is our lowest point of the season and the players redeem their reputations ASAP.
