No More PL For Luiz

We need this donkey ball man out of the side sharpish. He's too slow for 4-2-3-1 and that's not a donkey ball formation anyway. Without him, there's no hoofing in the equation. Time and again today we went backwards for no other reason than him taking so long, his only option was the pass way across the pitch. Receiver now so far away that by the time the ball got to him, he can only go backward to Leno. Happens enough times and he ends up deep with nowhere to go but hoof and hope (albeit with great long pass ability).

Certainly with Mari and Holding anyway, this didn't/doesn't happen. They move the ball much faster meaning the receiver can still snap it forward before he's forced to go to goal with it. We still go backwards occasionally but it truly is "Backwards to go forwards" with purpose. As opposed to the Luis in the team version of "Backwards to go sideways to go backwards some more, a few times over then HOOF!"

Rest of our CBs are too quick for DL to keep up with and trying to use him slows the whole team down. Thankfully this was a cup match but watching it, I'd definitely say no more PL games for David unless injury makes it necessary. I'd say it was his age but truth is he's always been rubbish at that quick snappy play. That's one of the reasons he's better in a 3/5. He's got that time to ps about with thanks to the default 5th man at the back. Only 4 now so he's just going to make the team's job harder. FA Cup/EL only for DL.

Oh so you all wanted to be playing hoofball again did you? Sorry, I thought we were enjoying the whole fast paced attacking football thing we were on last week.

But if it's going backwards far too much and hoofing it up and across the pitch you love to watch then you would be happy at his presence and the performance today. I prefer last weeks defensive distribution myself, since it makes playing off the front foot possible and generally makes actually interesting to watch.

Yeh David Luiz was awful today. Clearly at fault for their first go..........oh

Serial I never said he was awful today did I? I said he kills the pace of overall play and causes the repetitive back pass to excess, play. Instead of a couple of quick passes at the back and the ball coming straight out, as we were getting with Mari and Holding. We get dwelling on the ball and it gets stuck in the back line so long we end up with little option but a DL hoof pass. "Quick ball out of defence" does not exist for us with Luiz at CB, especially in a 4.

What others are seeing as some sterling performance by Luiz, I'm seeing as a team lucky to get through after the manager part kneecapped em again by bringing back Luiz hoof ball as the main tactic. If the cost of playing him is that we have to see the ball hoofed half the time, then I don't want him in the team. It's a yawnfest to watch and it's counterproductive given last week's progression. Which was as much about quick ball from the back enabling a front footed MF and attack, plus quick transition. As it was about the Laca & the Young Guns show.

Luiz passing range is better than Holdings’s.

Luiz’s passing range is better than any other defender at the club apart from Tierney, he’s a decent choice when you expect to dominate but a bit of a worry when you are under severe pressure.

That's what I'm on about, he needs a lot of time to execute and that slows down the entire attack. Instead of playing out fast, through teams as the main approach, with his hoof pass as a back up, counter-attack option. We end up with him dwelling on and hogging the ball at the back to wait for his hoof pass and it becomes the main approach option. Something that was practically non-existent for the time he was out of the team.

I couldn't believe how many times we saw it the other night. It was almost as though Arteta had said "Ah good David is back in, so now we can play slow and hoof it most of the time again." His passing range is one slow asset which which comes at too hefty a price, in a 4 man back line. He just isn't going to get that time he needs, as much as he wants to take it. Time for him to be backup and EL only, he's just going to slow the team down.
