Why are we still being underrated?

Morning all

Great win last night after a hard fought performance. Ive been his biggest critic but I thought Pogba was excellent too, not only in his creativity but in the fact that he was clearly up for the fight and completed the job he was tasked with.

My main point for this article though is to ask why are we still being underrated by both united fans and everyone else alike? We may not win the league, but people are still writing us off despite what the evidence says:

9 wins and 2 draws in 11 league games
Most points out of anyone in the last 31 games

People seem to ignore the fact that winning is a habit, and we’ve got into that habit in the league which is very valuable indeed.

There are great arguments to say City or Liverpool will win it, but writing us off would be foolish in my eyes.

Thoughts?

You are top of the league for a few days. Not sure what gratification you are looking for? United fans showing Spurs fan mentality.

You're saying supporters shouldn't be pleased about going top unless it's Liverpool?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Its not me asking why you are being underrated. I had to put my WhatsApp groups on silent last night with the amount of messages

Didn't you join in with meaningful football discussion? Might have been a good time to give it a try?

I for one have PTSD from growing up in the 1980s, and despite going through the whole Fergie era, I'll never get past the instinctive sense that football is a tragic art, that draws you in to hope and then dashes it cruelly.

Beyond natural pessimism, I also think it's rational to see United as about third favourites for the title at this stage. We have a few more points than our actual performances to date deserve.

However, all that is based on what we have seen so far, and predictions based on recent form regularly make mugs of all of us. Form changes, luck strikes, randomness presides, and football defies predictions. It's likely that we fall back a bit in line with our natural level. But it's also possible that we improve in the second half of the season. If we consistently play at the level we reached in the second half of the previous season, that's a considerably better United than we've seen since September. Play like that and we would deserve to hoover up points as we have recently. Get one or two of Rashford / Martial / Greenwood in the form they were in and we'll be on the front foot more often. What if Pogba plays more consistently than ever before? What if Bailly stays fit and the partnership with Maguire gets better and better? What if McTominay grows more and more assured and starts to offer a Matic-with-legs alternative? What if Diallo is a revelation? If one or two of the above came to pass, we could gain momentum, improve significantly, and hopefully maintain the points per game ratio. Obviously, lots of 'ifs', but for once we don't need EVERY 'if' to come to pass, and that's a welcome improvement on the last few years. And obviously, there are also bad 'ifs' - injury crises, shaky aspects of the side growing shakier - and we can't afford many of those.

Nobody knows how long we will be top of the league/ The government may decide to ban football for a while due to Covid. We might get a draw, or even win against you, unlikely but far from impossible

You put it a bit more succinctly, Mike

We are still 3rd favourites to win imo but we seem to now be the best side in the league in terms of getting results against the lesser sides.

If this continues and we can get a few results against the bigger sides we should be right up there.

I think it is more your own supporters underrating you to be honest.

Can you win the league? Absolutely.

Will you? Who knows. No one has streaked ahead this year like ourselves and city did in recent years so its there to be won.
City look like they are gathering momentum which is not a good sign for the rest of us.

Also too much emphasis is being put on Sundays game. Win lose or draw both teams will still be involved.

If you lost Fernandez for...let's say a month- six weeks, I think you'd be noticeably less formidable than you have..if you win the league, he'll be the buy of the decade
