Low block in Football

As we face Newcastle tonight I fully expect them to unleash the infamous low-block football we saw Crystal Palace so effectively did to us and nullified anything that we wanted to do.

So for those new to the so called modern Mourinhosque tactics, the low block is a defensive system where the players defend very deep in their own territory (basically parking the bus in lay terms) and restrict the space for opposition players to exploit.

It is a more static form of defence, as there is not much movement compared to a team playing with high pressing intensity.

It is understandable for the likes of Palace, West Brom and Newcastle to employ these conservative tactics however, it is actually humiliating to watch Spurs and United doing low- blocks.

Didn't Arsenal have a run of games without goals from open play this season?
Don't get me wrong, I want us to play more entertaining football. But we're a team in transition, heavily rely on 2-3 key players who are overplayed at the moment. So we can't play gung ho football every match anytime soon.

You have a point there but still you showed too much respect for Liverpool they were playing without any recognised defenders that was two points dropped mate.

Yes, we should have to attack more. I think if we're 6 points off Liverpool, then we might have a different approach. However, we did enough to win the match. Had one of the two big chances gone in, it would be praised as a tactical master class to Ole.

I hate low blocks, that game between Liverpool and United was so disgusting if I were United fan I would be ashamed and take quick shower that was nasty football.

Pretty much how Arteta has played for the majority

I hope City or Liverpool win the league to save us from the boring low block football

What are Arsenal's tactics? They are a very dull team under Arteta. Just had a look at goals scored in the league

United 34
Spurs 33
Arsenal 20

Maybe you need to employ the low block to get some goals?

Before ESR came into the team, we have been defensive all season. He has deployed the low block against all the big teams

Spurs have improved massively on last year and are in a cup final. They've gone through a sticky spell at Christmas and perhaps have fallen away in the title challenge, but there is a long way to go yet before anything is decided.

Man United are also top of the league and are performing as well as they ever have under Ole.

Why would these clubs not want to deploy a system that is improving their fortunes on the pitch?

From team style aspect , In what way have Spurs improved?!. Before yesterday’s game some of their fans were calling for Jose’s head after the Fulham game. Son and Kane are mostly responsible for their points tally, they beat a poor side yesterday who still managed to create some decent chances against them. I wouldn’t say they have ‘massively’ improved, they have some very gd players as I’ve mentioned who can win games on their own but I’ve got a lot of Spurs mates who have been disgruntled at what they have seen recently.

State of this, Arteta has been the biggest defensive minded manager of the big clubs since he joined arsenal
