Top 4? Very difficult but not impossible...

After 4th place Liverpool’s defeat last night, we sit 7 points behind them in the table at the midway point, with the same amount of games played.

The funny thing is you had told me at the start of the season that we’d only be 7 points behind the Champions half way through the season I’d have snapped your hand off but I never thought we’d be 7 points behind this Liverpool in these circumstances.

But as this season has been so crazy, I still wouldn’t rule Liverpool out of winning the title, nor would I rule out the possibility of them finishing below us. Both scenarios are unlikely, the latter far more unlikely than the former, but not impossible. Arteta needs to be drilling it into these players’ minds that despite our horrendous start to the season, top 4 is still very much on. If we have any chance of getting there, we will probably need to take 13 points from our next 5 fixtures.

Southampton away
United home
Wolves away
Villa away
Leeds home

Not a nice run leading up to City at home but in the corresponding fixtures last season we took 12 points, only losing to Villa on the penultimate day of the season with a heavily rotated squad in a game they had to win.

In the same period, Liverpool play Spurs, West Ham, City, Leicester and Everton.
Spurs play Liverpool, Chelsea, City and West Ham.
Everton play Leicester, United and Liverpool.
West Ham play Liverpool, Villa and Spurs.
Chelsea play Spurs and Southampton.
Southampton play Arsenal, Villa, United and Chelsea
Villa play West Ham, Southampton, Arsenal and Leicester.

With all the teams above us playing each other, we need to capitalise now and go on a winning run to give us a chance of salvaging something from this season. 13 points will almost certainly have us back in the mix.

We've got a set of fixture which, I believe, we have a good chance of picking up 22 out of 30 points. But this season is so unpredictable.

Trouble for us is, I don't think Arteta as yet knows what his best team is. He's kinda stumbled into a winning. Question I would ask is, has he finally figured out the key issues we have in the side, because his continued inclusion of Xhaka suggests not.

Never know. A run of good form and injury free period might still turn this disaster of a season into something to cheer about.

If this Utd side that we managed to beat convincingly are 6pts clear at the top anything is possible!. It’s a freak season.

United are only 2 points clear at the top.

Why on earth are we your benchmark? We are awful at the moment and on the decline badly.

I wouldn't be that excited to still be 7 points behind a team who've scored once in 5 games.

Who said Liverpool are the benchmark?

You are in 4th place which is where we want to finish.
