Derby won

Good start for Wayne. Do we think he will make it as a manager?
I think he may do well in the short term, but don't see him doing it in ten years time when he has a few million in the bank.

I hope so. But I have my doubts, he doesn't strike me as having the mental capacity to be a tactical coach, but that’s not to say he couldn’t be a good motivator. Go on wazza, prove me wrong.

He’s a thick Scouser, but I don’t think that means he won’t understand that side of the game.

Carra and Neville touched upon this last week. They spoke about when Rooney was on mnf, and Carra expressed how impressed he was with Rooney’s understanding of that side of the game, as well as how he’d always shown that from what he knew of that from England - something Neville had agreed with, knowing him very well.

That doesn’t mean it’d translate to the pitch, however, and Neville actually said he’d hope that Rooney wouldn’t get too caught up with that side of the game and would like his teams to play with the fire on the pitch that he did as a player.

But I think you’re really underestimating Rooney’s intelligence and understanding of the game.

Not being funny but you don't need an IQ of 140 to be a manager of a football team.

You often see managers over analysing the game all the time. When Tinkerman suddenly decided keeping the same startering 11 as much as he could with 5000/1 outsiders and kept things simple he won the league with Leicester.

Doing the basics and doing the basics well and getting a team to follow simple instructions goes a long way.

Rooney will be Ole Mark 2.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A success then
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think N2 means appointed Man United manager, before his time, based on sentimental reasons only.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ah, OK then. I don't see him managing us, but who knows. I wish him luck at Derby.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Neither does N2 but it was a opportune stick to beat Ole with further
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A former Utd striker who played under Fergie, who then goes into management with people doubting him and who will probably continue to divide opinion.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
not if Wazza got United to the top of the Premier League. Then only an complete idiot (or a Dipper/Bertie) would still question the appointment.

It would be on the same level as criticising Rashy despite him being 2nd to Bruno on goals and assists, don't you think?

No not at all. Rashford and Bruno are not above criticism. As is any United player. No player is bigger than the club.

Damn right; no player, manager, CEO, or owner is above criticism. Glad we agree this doesn't make one a plastic.

Pep is articulate and come across as intelligent, rooney belongs on a tyre swing.

Joking apart, SlippyG never came across as a particularly smart guy, and he’s done well at rangers. As Darren points out Rooney’s peers are impressed with his knowledge, so let’s see how he does, good he’s got a break at Derby.
