HS2 just naw

100£BN+ while the country struggles

Naw just naw!

Wait til they start on Crossrail 2, the country will go bankrupt.

I'm all for HS2 on the proviso the government follow up with the links between the northern cities.

To me that's the end goal as when it comes to adequacy; they are considerably in the dark ages. The train from Manchester to Leeds is a prime example. The M62 has got to be up there with being the worse motorway in the UK.

Every time I leave the house other than to my place of work I struggle between car and train. Neither is much cop.

That's what I've said all along, terminating in Birmingham really would be a waste of money.

Totally agree with you on that.

Rail infrastructure investment is the way forward.

Electric trains fed by renewable energy.

Less cars, buses and planes spewing out toxic fumes.

However, it's always the south that gets taken care of.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I agree with this. I have real objections to the concept of HS2. My biggest complaint is that it services those who work in the capital and nobody north of Birmingham. It is typical London centric development.

I do not live near a train station but would love to see huge investment in our rail links to make travel easier, quicker and more accessible
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Erm

It’s the other way around. It’s to facilitate traffic to the capital and back again and then extended to join up the northern cities with each other.

People in London and the SE have a woefully inadequate system too you know.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

That was my point in that up to Birmingham it is designed to get people to London quicker.

Is it planned to extend to Manchester?

Yes

Crewe, Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool and then up to Scotland to be linked up as the next phases

There's zero plan to being it past Yorkshire. But we will pay our share.

The Manchester line is supposed to be eventually extended to Glasgow and the Leeds line to Edinburgh.

But not until 2045.

Interesting article with views from both sides of the argument.

Investment in faster broadband and local public transport seem most pertinent, as does improving rail links in the North.
