Recruitment Charade

The truth is I was never for Lampard to replace Sarri at Chelsea.

At the time I was not particularly impressed with the football that Derby was playing and I just felt that Frank would not have anywhere near enough managerial experience to succeed at a club like Chelsea, where expectations would be high and patience low.

But, once the Lampard appointment was made, accompanied by club briefings that this was a new era, a long term plan to build a young team that would grow up together, along with their young manager, I actually began to feel comfortable with the idea.

I interpreted the appointment and the club briefings as recognition from the club that they were fully aware that they had hired a novice manager and that his development, along with the younger players would experience many peaks and troughs.

Now, I realise I was just a naive mug to ever think that the club actually subscribed to that rhetoric. Now, I am just angry that the club wasted 18 months recruiting Lampard when nothing strategically had ever changed.

They should have hired Tuchel or the like of 18 months ago and not played out this charade.

Well we don’t, do we?

We know enough about Chelsea to know that they’ve no real interest in whether a manager is experienced in developing youth coming through the academy.

It clearly isn’t of interest to them.

If you can’t see that then... well, that amazes me.

They're doing a pretty good job of hiding it if that's true!

Interesting tweet that sums up what I was trying to say.

Pretty accurate tbh, Zidane's job is on the line at Real despite two league titles and a CL and no one in Spain is batting an eyelid, whereas in England manager's could come in, be thoroughly rubbish at their job and still have the media, pundits and fans outraged in their behalf when they get a fully deserved sacking...
