So I think we can all agree that it’s about time football grew up and let’s have the gay footballers opening up to what is now totally fine in general society
The excuse has always been - they can’t, they’d get too much stick from the fans at games.
For sure there will be a section of fans from a certain age group that is stuck in the past and may do homophobic chants.
But it’s got to happen sometime, there is probably several gay players just in the premier league.
Maybe this season, with no fans, it’s the perfect time for a gay player to come out and say - you know what, I’m gay and I’m a footballer. Get over it
Thoughts?
First gay player

Agreed.
What surprises me more is that you never really hear many stories at all where players have been caught having a gay romp or anything like that.
Perhaps they have been but get embargoed.

they would still surely get leaked... same way straight videos get leaked like that Allison 3some video.

What?! That's disgusting! Where?!

I have said it before and I will say it again, if we are taking a knee for BLM at the start of the match then we should also be taking both knees to support homosexuality in football and throughout the world.

Quick question based on what is said in OP.
Is it "totally fine in general society"?
I'm not convinced it is tbh. Its a bit like racism in that people may not be as vocal but no way is it "fine" imo.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think it depends really. Quite a big gay scene in Nottingham, council are certainly proactive with pride and stuff. Lots of my friends are gay, no one gives a fvck and you'd look a no head saying otherwise.
Older generation and out in the sticks like Mansfield, not so much.
My daughter was bridesmaid at one of the first ever gay weddings, she has no idea about bigotry and so on. I think she'd find it weird.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not trying to be a wum or whatever here but I'm sure I read that despite the big pride type events in brazil they have the biggest hate crimes too.
Where I live we had an elevated mayor who was gay. He came to prominence initially (before becoming mayor) for getting beaten up quite severely in a gay district. Think.it may have been Nottingham
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There's no gay district here unless you count the whole of NG1 (which is also the name of a gay club here).
I think if there was a country that com in ng out would be easier then it's here but... Gareth Thomas got no end of grief when he came out didn't he? Think he nearly killed himself.
I don't get it. If you want some D go get it. If anything it does straight lads a favour numbers wise.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Don't know the Specifics re nottingham tbh.
Re Gareth think he was supported quite well, wasnt he?
Albeit there was that time he was beaten up in a homophobic attack. Turned out to be a 16 year old lad. The story that sis the rounds outside of press etc was that Gareth was trying it on with the young lad and got punched.
Don't know if accurate but have to say the 16 year old beating up ex rugby player Gareth was a bit hard to believe

Unfortunately we're living in a world where racism is still a major part of society: so I don't really blame them for not coming out.
If they feel confident enough to do it then more power to them: but the choice is free for them to make

I have no problem with homosexuality unless people start telling children that it is "normal". It is not. In most species in both animals and plants there are two different genders. That is "normal". Whilst I accept deviations from this are common they are still an aberration. It is far better that people can be open open there sexuality now, rather than being vilified or persecuted for it but please don't call it "normal".
