I am currently bed ridden after surgery last week so have had lots of time to watch the football. More often than not I have found myself bored. Burnley have just had their first shot in the 86th minute. Chelsea have just about done enough to win but have spent most of the game passing it from left to right and back again. It was a very similar pattern in their last game. Man Utd seemed to play the same way against Sheffield United. They have all these attacking players who thrive on through balls and pace but it was rarely used. Everton were poor yesterday. No urgency to attack. I have also noticed more sloppy passes than I have before.
Has the lack of fans contributed to this? The game seems to be played with less tempo which is something home fans cry out for. Fans encourage their team to get forward. To attack. To provide entertainment. Teams such as Burnley thrive on that energy from the home support. I would even go as far as saying the crowd has contributed to them staying in the league for so many seasons.
I heard the commentator during the Chelsea game say that we have seen more away wins in the Premier league than home wins since fans weren't allowed to attend matches. Quite remarkable really.
Anyway, on to Leicester versus Leeds and the hope that they reignite my love for the beautiful game.
Lack of fans contributing to poor football?

To be honest, I think it is as much the fact every game is being shown. There were a lot of crap matches with fans in the stadium. Now we are just exposed to more of them live.
For many, even the normal 5 games a week was over exposure and we certainly sat through a lot of dross in the fans attending era of 1880-2020.

Although I don't deny the lack of fans plays a part. Maybe in the viewing aspect more than the playing, as a raucous crowd could make a boring game feel decent.

Sorry to hear about your health situation, I hope you are okay.
Personally I thought Chelsea were excellent today and I love possession football.
As for general trends, yes it is probably true the lack of fans is reducing the sense of urgency among some teams and making sides accept draws they otherwise would not.

Appendix surgery but complications afterwards. I will be fine I'm sure.
I may have been harsh on Chelsea today. It was a very professional performance. Football is also a game of tactics, patience etc.
As D'Jeezus says, maybe I'm watching too much football.
I mean I'm a Sheffield Wednesday fan. Entertainment doesn't really come with the territory.

Hope you are feeling better and healing well.
In regards to chelsea I think you are being very harsh indeed. We scored 2, hit the woodwork once and missed several good chances. Burnley didn't attempt to play once.

Yes I agree that I may have been harsh on Chelsea today. Do you think a full stadium would have made a difference to Burnley though? First shot on 86 minutes is poor. I mean they didn't even have a swing at anything in anger

Sloppy sorry to hear you are laid up in bed. Hope you make a quick and full recovery. Wednesday's result yesterday must have cheered you up a bit Club's in a bit of a mess it seems though?
Football without fans is nothing.

How you doing Kitty? Good to see you are still knocking about these boards.
Yes the club is in a mess at the moment. I actually don't see any way out of it either until Chansiri goes
