Wolves v Leeds match preview

Date: Friday 19th Feb
Kick off: 20.00
Venue: Molineux

On Friday Wolves welcome Leeds United to Molineux.

The reverse fixture in October resulted in a 1-0 win for Wolves with a goal from Raul Jimenez. That game highlighted the contrast in playing styles between these two sides with Nuno setting up to nullify the Leeds attack, defend resolutely and rely on the counter attack to produce a goal. A snooker fan would have been put in mind of Alex Higgins being frustrated by Cliff ‘The Grinder’ Thorburn.

Since the previous meeting, Wolves have won only 5 games (D6, L 8). In the same period, Leeds have won 8 of their games (D1, L9)

After their win at St Mary’s on Sunday, Wolves have moved up to 12th in the table with 30 points. At this point last season, they had just 6 points more but were 6 places higher in the table, in 6th.

After their loss to Arsenal on Sunday, Leeds are in 11th place in the table with 32 points
Marcelo Bielsa certainly doesn’t set up his team to draw games and seems to be obsessed with attacking football and scoring goals at all costs. Of their 24 games this season they have drawn just 2. Of the other 21 games, 13 have been won or lost by more than a one goal margin.
Whether you agree or not with this somewhat Gung-ho style, Leeds have certainly brought a breath of fresh air to the Premier league this season and no manager in the league can afford to take them anything less than seriously.

Wolves’ season has been severely hampered by injuries to senior players but things are slowly improving. The recent return of wing backs Jonny, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Marcal has given Nuno some badly needed options. Only star striker Raul Jimenez, centre back Willy Boly and forward Daniel Podence now remain sidelined.

The game will be shown live on BT Sport 1

Seeing talk that Alexander Buksa, another teenage sensation is following the club and Traore after being linked with a move to us in the summer.

Thankfully rumoured to be very cheap and not a 35 million quid spunking.

One of our loan players getting rave reviews at the moment is Sarkic, the keeper we signed from Villa. He has kept a clean sheet in half the games he has played for Shrewsbury and played a big part in their improvement since Steve Cotterill was appointed as their manager. Back up keeper at the Shrews is another guy well known to Wolves, Harry Burgoyne
