Gareth Bale

I know that I might be accused of clutching at straws, but I have a feeling that Bale is going to start to have an impact over the second half of the season. He certainly looked more committed and skillful in his cameo on Saturday evening; which is something that we have just not seen from him at all previously this season.

Jermaine Jenas's article below echoes the thoughts that I had (and probably many other Spurs fans had) on Saturday.

I think Jose should give Bale a run of games now and let's see what he can do. I am just fed up with seeing Moura run around like a headless chicken and Lamela refusing to release the ball without first having ten touches. We need quality to support Kane and Son and I just hope and pray that Bale can provide it.

I know that this will not necessarily solve our defence, other than the fact that perhaps Jose should revert to two defensive midfielders in PEH and Sissoko and let Ndombele, Son, Bale and Kane provide the attacking impetus in a 4-2-3-1 formation

I find the narrative around Bale very interesting - and how a player who has cost us around £6m so far for doing next to nothing can be so continually defended. I’m not sure where the blind faith has collectively come from but it’s a shame it can’t be afforded to more of our players. Imagine Ndombele getting this level of support last season.

Well him doing nothing is not strictly his fault. He can't choose to select himself to play or not.

As for being defended, that's down to what people know he is potentially capable of. We already know he's reached world class levels before. It's the same reason players like Dele get defended even now after a few years of being poor, because of what he was capable of before that.

From JJ

For example, when he brought Moussa Sissoko on at half-time, the score was 1-0 and Mourinho is probably thinking we just need to stay in this game, and if we do then there are things that can happen.

That's not a snub to Bale, and neither is bringing him on when you are trying to get back in the game. Only leaving him on the bench or out of his squad completely would have been doing that.

I think that substitution was more about getting NDombele more advanced, as Lucas was in that No.10 role and not doing a great deal.

He may have been able to add Bale and stick Lamela at No.10 and have Bale wide but at 1-0 that's a very attacking approach.

All valid points, but the only guy who is the most decorated manager in the game isn't you or me.

that Sissoko sub at HT basically certifies Jose as wumming at this point

if anything it was a 'oh i should have started him to begin with' sub. But it was just wrong. First half i thought we were ok, had some wasteful counters, limited their chances, only conceded due to a awful bit of clumsiness for the penalty.

Sissoko comes on and we score a goal quick in the 2nd half which he was awful for. The guy comes on if youre 2-0 up not draw or losing.

yeah exactly. been my sentiment with Dele too. They are two players with more talent and attacking each prowess than Lucas and Lamela together

Agreed. At this point with recent form being LLLWLL what have we got to lose?

You’re clutching at straws mate. For a start, Jose needs to play him for him to have an impact. Whenever we need a goal he brings Sissoko, Lamela and Winks on.

Jose is an idiot for this...need a goal so bring on Sissoko the great scoring machine

JJ says Jose brought on Sissoko to solidify the midfield and stay in the game. If he’s our best hope to keep us in a game, then we are doomed!
Sissoko isn’t the answer at all. We used to have Dembele come on like that and marshal the midfield.
Extremely poor comparison between the two. Day and night diff!
Please don’t play him unless we are 4-0 up and need to waste time subbing!
