With the news that Sturgeon and the Scottish Govt’s scientific advisers are as good as ruling out overseas jollies for the Scots until October (with the rest of the UK to follow?), I just got chatting with a Scottish mate about our favourite UK holiday destinations.
I used to love fishing trips to the lochs with a couple of my mates: pitch up tents miles from nowhere on the water’s edge for a few days, car boots stocked with beers, whisky and campfire grub.
Then the Lake District, which Manc aside (for family and friends) is probably the place I miss most in the UK. No wild camping there though of course, although I knew a few lads who’d just take bivvy bags back in the day.
The food aside, I never really understood the attraction of the UK coastline despite having family from Northumberland, parts of which I guess are pretty beautiful, if a little exposed. That said, I used to enjoy gobbling a pot of whelks whilst kicking a footy along the beach with my little bro as a kid.
Fack, I just realised I’m turning into MU52. Cheers
Anyway, what are people’s favourite UK staycation locations?

Probs. I knew it was somewhere between Aberdeen and Edinburgh which is basically all a blur even though I do like Pitlochry (admittedly too far west to count). Spent a week camping and hill walking when I was younger.

Yeah it's good for that. If you ever want any tips for secret places to avoid the general public then let me know

It's a place where things go in and out of English people's bums, whilst in Scotland. That's all I know about it.

Not fussed about going anywhere on a holiday even in the UK if the pubs/restaurants aren't back to normal.
For the OP, I went to the Isle of Arran once, and it was absolutely beautiful.

Norfolk Broads, not over touristy and great fun getting them boats to do as they are told, if you like churches and history you can't go wrong, more medieval churches per square mile than any where else in the world. Pub meals pretty much the same as anywhere, no Wetherspoons just plenty of cosy village pubs with decent local beer, if you do get the weather you've cracked it.
