The one game that confirms what you’ve been

thinking for a long time.

With Wenger I had started to lose faith in him towards the end of the 10/11 collapse but the first game I was convinced he had to go was back in 12/13 when we lost 2-1 at OT. A year earlier we had gone to OT and lost 8-2 but for me, the 2-1 loss was worse. The reason being we went there expecting to lose and accepting defeat. It felt like watching a testimonial for RVP.

No matter the difference in quality between us and the opposition, no Arsenal team should ever accept defeat before a ball has been kicked. Today, we witnessed a team playing for a slender defeat. No ambition, no belief, no clue how to build any sort of meaningful attack. We only lost 1-0 but if City wanted to, they could have embarrassed us.

This just isn’t good enough really. Say what you want about the quality of the squad, the deadwood clogging up wages, the mess Wenger left us in - this Arsenal team should not be clinging on to a spot in the top half of the table at this stage of the season. Arteta needs to win the Europa or else leave the club. The only way you can justify these performances in the league is by winning a cup and the Europa is the only one Arteta hasn’t thrown away...yet

Unless Arteta wins the EL with us, of course.

In which case he'll still be the Arsenal manager next season.

Yeah quite. Fanciful to think Rodgers would leave a CL team for a club who might not have any European football of any sort next season.

And even if he were tempted to leave Leicester, there would be other far better options out there for him right now than Arsenal.

He left Celtic, a team who won the league and guranteed European competition every season, for Leicester, who at the time were lower in the league than Arsenal are now. Ok, ok it's quite different, but don't underestimate ego. You don't think Rodgers is exactly the kind of guy who rates himself enough to think he could be the one who "finally gets Arsenal back to the top"?

Also Arsenal pay managers a lot of money. So there's that.

Yeah, that did cross my mind too tbh. But I just think the timing would be wrong, if people are looking for him to be the guy that replaces Arteta.

Where is to happen though, I'd definitely want Rodgers to bring the guy that's in charge of their scouting and recruitment with him!

Is THAT guy part of Rodgers' team or more part of Leicester setup? They unveiled few talents even prior to his arrival.

*apart from the European competition they will be playing in next season

And why would Rodgers care? He is not going abroad. And the other biggest clubs have managers already.

And rightfully so.

I think it's the sort of decision that's difficult to accurately assess when you're as far removed from it as you and I are. I would assume that Arsenal pay well and along with their history, stadium and brand could well be seen as a very exciting project. Of course that will then vary from person to person and one manager may pick their lips at the chance whilst another doesn't fancy it at all.

But the considerations they make when thinking about it will be far more than anyone on this site will think of. Most of the thought process on here comes down to ignorant, petty tribalism.

You're probably right. Although on the other hand, if Leicester come 2nd or even 3rd Rodgers might look at the teams around them and think that's as far as he can take them. I mean this was the year when football went mad for a few months and anything was possible... and City are still going to walk the league.

I mean it's almost certainly a moot argument as Arsenal will no doubt stick by Arteta at least into next season, unless things completely collapse again in the next few months.

Depends on Arsenal strategy. If you are tearing it up and going young then you need to have a new man in as quickly as possible. Arteta can of course rescue it all by winning the Europa.
