For me there's simply no argument and it's not even close.
Paul Tierney is by far the best football ref we have in this country.
He's the only referee in the Premier League who generally goes unnoticed for the whole 90 minutes , does an excellent job every time I see him out there on the pitch , solid and spot on with his decisions and perhaps most importantly he stays out of the limelight and is happy just to remain generally anonymous , which of course is a great attribute for any good ref.
A far cry from a Martin Atkinson who loves himself a headline or two and has never seen a red card he didn't like or a Michael Oliver who never seems to be far from controversy and comes across to me as a referee with a bias for and against certain teams. I can't stand him - or his big ears for that matter ... Jose Mourinho is definitely right about him.
And then there's Kevin Friend who just seems a bit clueless quite often and Lee Mason who I always thought was rather decent until that brain fart yesterday.
We don't have too many good football refs in this country but if there's one who stands above the rest for me it's definitely Paul Tierney.

Oliver been shocking last few seasons. Tierney I thought was excellent today and has been everytime he been a ref in a game I'm watching.
Jon Moss remains no1 clown with Lee Mason and Mike Dean Close 2nd.

Disagree with this. He's up there but he's too quick to his whistle for me. Michael Oliver probably still the best.

No way. Every time I watch a match officiated by Oliver I'm always left feeling that I've just seen a biased ref. If this guy's our best ref as you claim then the standards are pretty miserable.

The standards are miserable and I believe Michael Oliver is the only English referee part of the elite group of UEFA referees.

Tierney is too trigger happy. Never lets the game flow.
Twattenburg and Webb were the best referees. None of the current ones are good

The only good referee was Clattenburg and he's gone. Tierny is biased with certain teams. Same incident but different decsions because of certain teams and maybe he reacts to players reactions and pressure.

Oliver is the best. Tierney is a manc and always biased towards the Manc teams and against Liverpool.
