We won’t be getting Top 4

Don’t get me wrong, it was a breath of fresh air yesterday and we pretty much played a flawless game from start to finish, which is something we have been lacking pretty much all season. The Bale resurrection also excites me and it was never in doubt for me. I have been positive with Bale all season. Doesn’t take a football expert to know that is by far our best front 3.

That being said, unfortunately I think it’s too little too late for me. We do have a favourable run of games if you want to call it that, but our atrocious form the last 2 months has pretty much ended our hopes of Top 4. We have to not only win at least 90% of our remaining games, which isn’t happening with our defence, but we also have to rely on 3/4 teams hitting some poor form. It’s just to much of a task for me.

The Europa is our best chance and the one we need to be truly concentrating on. Obviously we have a final to look forward to, despite the fact I don’t think we have much of a chance, but like others have said, a one off game anything can happen. Don’t want to sound negative, as I was excited more than anyone seeing Gareth smash it yesterday, but let’s be realistic here guys. The likelihood of us getting top 4 is extremely slim.

How do you figure? With a game in hand we only need to pick up 3 points more than West Ham or Chelsea over 3 games.

The way I see it Leicester are on a poor run and have just lost Barnes to injury. We've got Bale and Dele coming in to form and Lo Celso due back any day now. On the flipside you'd have to think Liverpool will pick it up.

Of course we're outsiders but I wouldn't rule anything out at this point.

I think it’s grown over the last 20 years. Especially in the 00’s. During that time Arsenal and Chelsea were loads better than Spurs - and West Ham, so they saw us as the most viable big club ‘rival’ to aim their hatred at, as they had an outside chance of being competitive against us and so it grew (boosted by online the growth of online football communities). Problem is it’s pretty one way as firstly our rivalry is with Arsenal, and secondly we went up a level while they dropped off and had a couple of relegations.

I have heard West Ham fans say they would take relegation if it meant they could do the double over Spurs and other such ridiculous analogies of what they’d sacrifice to deny us success. When we were in the CL final they were beside themselves. Their fans get so riled up when they play us, yet deny that it’s their cup final even though they treat it like it. It’s mental their hatred for us, most of us hardly think about them at all.

It started way before the the last 20 years Ace. I can remember the running battles along Tottenham High Road in the late 70s, and early 80s. They even tried unsuccessfully to take the the Shelf a couple of times back then. The bad old days.

I think Leicester are the problem, they still have a very healthy 10 point lead over Spurs, could be cut to seven points if they win their game in hand, but still a very good lead. Liverpool I think will finish top four, but I still reckon Spurs can finish above Chelsea, who despite being unbeaten are hardly looking brilliant. But even finishing above Chelsea may not be good enough. Obviously you have to throw in Everton and Villa with their games in hand as well.

Not sure I’d go as far as to say Dele is coming into form. Nice overhead kick against an Austrian pub team but need to see more and against better opponents to convince me he’s ‘back’.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

2 assists as well.. but yeah I take your point. At the very least he's done enough to get himself back in contention for the number 10 spot with Ndombele moving back. Even in patchy form he'll likely contribute more than Lucas or Lamela there.

Then of course we've got Lo Celso

Bale/Lucas or Lamela, Dele/Lo Celso, Son/Bergwijn
Kane/Vinicius

lots of attacking talent and variety there.

a few further quality additions further back and we look like a top 4 outfit

I think their hatred for us excelerated when we brought Defoe and Carrick off them after they were relagated at knock down prices.

I actually hope they qualify for Europe this season and see them suffer in the league next season. They will be back to square one. Fairplay to them though, they have done well this season and look a solid outfit without playing great football and they are happy to concede possession.

They are lucky to have a clear run in the league to finish in the top 6. No european football and knocked out the cups early doors.

They used to hate Millwall before but since they yo yo'd back to the Prem they targeted us for some reason.

I remember 10 years ago or so their ICF mugs decided to target several pubs around WHL and trash them. 5cumb4gs who used to anti-semitic chants, called Mido's mum a terrorist and recently have been racist to Son.

If they finish above us this season, next season they feel the pain in the league should they be able to qualify for Europe. Last time they qualified for Europe they lost to some Romanian farmers LOL mugs.

We have to a bit careful on here regarding supporter dust ups I was at the old WHL when we played West Ham there for the last time. There was loads of trouble and the Spurs fans were at least equally responsible for it infact if I remember correctly 2 West Ham fans were stabbed.

On this forum some of our fans tend to think of crowd trouble as a West Ham, Chelsea and Millwall thing, I suggest those tempted to do so look up Feyenoord 74 we were very much there at the onset of hooliganism.

As for West Ham having a special dislike for Spurs I don't think they are any keener on Chelsea but they tend to beat us more often than them.

100 per cent correct pawl. Spurs fans used to be notorious back in the day, especially in the 1970s. I saw lots of away day dust ups back then, all over the country.

Well, the problem is what does Mourinho focus on?
I would think Europa would be best bet for silverware... and keeping his job.
He's got to keep Bale, Ndombele and Lo Celso fit. And Kane! So he not going to play them every single game.
The Premiership seems the obvious competition to mark time. We're not making fourth spot without a lot of help from the teams above us (Chelsea, Liverpool, Everton) and also below us (Aston Villa).
