IS IT THE BACKROOM BOYS

I was wondering if the forwards and midfielders are being coached properly!

We have a number of forwards and midfielders who don't always shoot when I and most of the other fans arround me think they should, they look frightened to shoot in case they miss. It looks like they would sooner look to someone else to have a go, by the time they have all passed it to one another it comes back to the orginal player who has now lost the chance.

Is this down to bad coaching????

Not too sure about our current set up to comment. But if I remember rightly last season Robbie Fowler was coaching the forwards, and if memory serves this coincided with us scoring more goals and going on a winning streak. So it would pay dividends. That said I thnk the last few games have seen alot of new players bedding in and I expect the goals to pick up from the start of the season

To be honest I think Robbo & JG do a great job on limited resources.

I have moaned before about getting a defence coach and as already said we have looked at getting an attack coach, but I don't think we have the funds.

I guess we have to accept that we do have some limitations, but look at Man Utd they are top for getting their shots on target and its the best players who have the best technical ability. The players need to stay behind for shooting practice and just as important not just blast the ball over the bar or tamely pass to their goalie, they need to have a professional attitude. At half time the subs with an open goal still manage to miss the goal and that is poor (how can they expect to score when a goalie is present?).

In the warm ups we have improved but we need to translate that into the match and have controlled power into the corners when possible. I have always said look at youtube clips of Allan "Snifer" Clarke (Leeds 70s striker) and other great goal scorers, that's how to shoot.

It has been affecting the forwards for a couple of seasons, they get into the right positio ns then try one pass too many.

Perhaps Robbo needs to set a rule if they are within 15 yards of the goal the they are not allowed to pass, they must take a shot

Hmm I actually think we found the right balance between shooting and passing on tuesday. But finishing was school-boy stuff, though I don't want to offend school boys.

Shaun Williams in particular. He had one towards the end of the first half and another minutes before the end of the match. Both attempts were just pathetic. I want to see them put their foot through the ball tomorrow.
