Golden Boot 2020/21

Who do you think will be the most scoringest player in the Premier League this season? The front runners so far:

1. Mohamed Salah 17
2. Bruno Fernandes 16
2. Harry Kane 16
4. Patrick Bamford 13
4. Dominic Calvert-Lewin 13
4. Son Heung-Min 13

Maybe Vardy to have a late run at it?

if Kane and Bruno finish level would it come down to who has the most assists who wins it?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think it goes to the player with the least minutes played.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We all know that Kane will have deserved it due to half of his not being pens.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Plus he’s being shackled by a dinosaur of a manager who past his sell by date about 8 years ago. Very impressive if he does get it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Some would say Mourinho has helped Kane add those assists to his game. I certainly don't think he's held him back from scoring though. If anything Kane should have more goals due to not being quite so clinical.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think that’s more to do with the fact Kane has had to adapt his own game due to Mourinhos shortcomings as a manager. Shows what a player he is, he’s doing the assisting, scoring and defending. Regardless of where Spurs finish he should be in with a shout of pots.

Kane was dropping deep before Jose came in to be fair. It was something he started doing at least a year before Poch got sacked. He's added more assists with it this time. I guess Son's form and telepathic like relationship with him has helped in that.

Fair enough, I’d only really noticed the defensive side of his game this season and thought that was due to Jose defensive tactics and Kane having to come deeper to make something happen. Hope he keeps this form up for the euros and doesn’t get injured.

Not intrested in facts about how many pens Utd have had over 5 10 15+ seasons. This is an OP about golden boot and reference to Bruno who, like his half season in 2020 has scored half his goals from pens.

......

So you are interested in facts. But only if they suit your narrative.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

The narrative that is that Bruno is in contention for the golden boot largely on the strength of having a lot of penalties which he has successfully converted....FYI, the OP is entitled "Golden Boot 2020/21". Hence why facts about how many penalties United had in 2016/17 season is about as relevant to the discussion as what i had for breakfast!
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Isn’t the golden boot about who scores the most goals?

If the answer is yes then the next question will be is a penalty scored a goal?

Simple really. Hopefully you get it now.

50% of Brunos goals have come from the spot. Why is anyone trying to suggest that merits the same as any of the others. Hardly a narrative is it, he IS in contention on the strength of taking a lot of penalties.

Taking penalties is a skill fo sho but his one in four strike rate otherwise means that his overall ability is be uk ng wildly overrated imo. Decent player though and tries to make things happen. Reminds me of Danny Murphy.

WHat rubbish.

Kane has always been an excellent passer of the ball. When he first hit the scene many compared him to Teddy, and he then developed in to a clinical finisher.

How he now plays cannot be written off as Kane having to adapt his own game to suit Jose. I would say that in the early season particularly the lack of quality coming from our midfield made it more of a necessity, but also suited our other players like Son who's rapid pace could be sought out on the counter attack. It also helps that Kane drops deep now, even when we are not counter attacking and then move forward, making him harder to pick up and mark but also seeing him in places like the weekend when he scored that belter. In that game he scored from distance, he squared on to put it on a plate for Bale, he tapped in from 6 yards out and a back post header to set up Bale again. This shows evolution of his game which makes more use of his passing ability, while also making him harder to contain than your standard no.9 who stands in the box waiting for crosses. His abilities give us multiple options when on the counter-attack as a provider, when up against a deep sitting defence with danger from outside the area, and also getting in the box as a number 9, often making late runs from deep.

This is a development of Kane over the last 1.5 seasons and while credit goes to him for having these abilities, the coaching team will have made him the centre of everything to exploit all his attributes.

Writing off as all Kane and none of Jose (& other coaches) is nonesense

Indeed you are simple, but surely not dumb enough to have to clarify with me what the golden boot is. But just in case, it is about who scores the most goals over a season Home schooling my 8 year old wasnt this bad
