Wolves v Liverpool match preview

Date: Monday 15th March
Kick off: 20.00
Venue: Molineux

On Monday Wolves welcome Liverpool to Molineux.

After losing 5 home games in a row, Liverpool faced Fulham on Sunday and recorded a 6th home loss when beaten 1-0. This poor run of home results is a massive blow for the fans who had seen their club record an unbeaten home run of 68 league games, stretching back to 2017.

Wolves got back on track after their footballing lesson at the Etihad and took a point from Aston Villa on Saturday.

In the reverse fixture in December Wolves were well beaten at Anfield with the hosts recording a 4-0 win. As a result Liverpool went joint top of the table with Tottenham. How things have changed since then with Liverpool now 8th in the table and Tottenham 6th. Wolves are currently in 12th place in the table with 35 points, just 8 points less than Liverpool.

Both Liverpool and Wolves have demonstrated perfectly this season how losing a key player through long term injury can affect performances and results. Although Liverpool’s loss is with defender Virgil van Dyke and Wolves’ with striker Raul Jimenez, neither side has been at their best since losing those players.

For this game, neither of the above mentioned players is liable to put in an appearance so both sides will continue to paper over the cracks that their missing players have left.

The game will be shown live on Sky Sports

Wolves have evidently got an agreement in principle to sign 16 year old Hibs keeper Murray Johnson. He will cost around £250k and has been scouted by Man City and Everton this season but Wolves best them to it

Firmino unlikely to be fit for Liverpool tonight so Diogo Jota will likely play centre forward

U23s also at home today as they play Sunderland at Kidderminster at 13:00

This thread has become very interesting and informative. I particularly enjoyed the discussion about Semedo. 👍

Under 23's being held 0-0 by lowly Sunderland at HT. Sondergaard replaced by 18 year old Joe Young in goal. Hope it's not a serious injury.

Hong Wan off and Samuels on after 73'. Still 0-0

Ended in a disappointing 0-0 draw. Still don't know why we can't play the young fringe first squad players, if nothing else than give them game time.

Yeah I have never understood that either. Doesn't have to be all the time but the occasional game wouldn't hurt. But there again that is all part of us having a tiny squad, we wouldn't be able to train properly if we let some play for the U23s.

Also don't understand the scheduling, the youth games always seem to come a day or so before the main side which restricts our using fringe players in them.

Saw most of the U23s game today. Do think we have unearthed a bit of a gem in Owen Hesketh. And also impressed with the Dutch defender Lonwijk
