Welcome back son, help yourself to a goal

Diogo Jota's inevitable winning goal for Liverpool got me thinking about the number of times ex-players have come back to Molineux to pi$$ us off with a cheeky goal. Often the case too that the returning protagonist was less than popular during his stint in gold and black.

There have been so many over the years I can't bring them all to mind but the one that really sticks with me is a freezing cold November evening in 2012 when Andy Keogh demonstrated the kind of coolness in front of goal that he rarely did during his 5 years with us to grab three points for Millwall. One of those nights when you just knew that was going to happen.

This was on the back of other recent games where Mark Davies and Adlene Guedioura had also scored goals at Molineux denying us points which would have saved us from a second successive relegation.

What others do you remember, there's plenty?

There is a general bitterness towards VAR in Wolverhampton because of the volume of points lost from VAR reviews and from us being the victim of some of the most controversial decisions. Accidental handballs, and players being offside by a clear and obvious toenail being given against us on a multitude of occasions.

Just to add to be fair to Wolves fans, when VAR reviews took place at Molineux when crowds were allowed in, there was always the chorus of F*** Var whether the decision was going for us or against us. The general view being that the whole process ruins the game as a live spectacle.

Going back to the original article I know there’s loads of ex Wolves players that have scored against us but be blowed if I can remember many. Alun Evans was another Liverpool one from the old days. I think Keogh got one and Vokes.

But of course it happens in reverse too. Few Wolves goals I remember more fondly than Bully’s last minute winner at the hawthorns on his first visit back there as a Wolves player

Kightly and Le Fondre also scored past us in the 16-17 season, I miscounted and got my bents mixed up for the other one. So only four that season.

Great goal by Keano

Often recall a conversation I overheard Steve Bull having with him not long after he had left Wolves to go to Coventry. ‘Just one more transfer like that and you’ll be set up for life’ was what Bully said to him. Given he went on to have half a dozen much bigger transfers in his career he clearly ended up being worth a few bob

Had forgotten about Mendez Laing, not Leon's goals though. That one of Guedioura's for Forest that I mentioned in the op was an absolute belter, the whole ground applauded it.
