Footballs Darkest Secret

That was one of the most harrowing programmes I’ve ever watched.

The pain and suffering caused by those coaches is evident in those brave men who have come forward.

Where was the safeguarding? The protection? We need to make sure this doesn’t happen ever again.

Gut wrenchingly sad and incredibly harrowing for those brave men recollecting the evil abuse they endured as young boys scarring them for life.
I hope to God there's a hell for those disgusting inhumane perpitrators.

The fact he took the whole team two at a time on a rolling weekend rota to his house in the Peak District and no adult queried it?!

THE WHOLE TEAM.

Only caught the last 20 minutes of it, obviously a really sad and sickening for those guys and bannell and the rest should rot in hell having been castrated first.

One bit I did see and could not get my head around was the guy who told his dad about it and he said and did absolutely nothing, this looked like it hurt the lad as much.
As a father myself that is unbelievable, the only thing I’m thinking is there would be serious violence involved hearing something like that

Yeah that but got me. I guess he didn’t want to think it could happen to his boy.

Personally anyone touches my kids and I’m doing a prison sentence tbh.

Ace - that’s good to know but someone will have slipped through the net. You can almost guarantee it. Helping/coaching at any sports team provides access. I’m so glad I grew up 90s/00s cos although there was issues around grooming in the digital age, certainly in my school/area anyway, any whiff of suspect behaviour was looked at by teachers etc.

No one wanted to believe it back then. And for BB to marry Andy’s sister is sick.

___________
I’ve done my FA Level 1 and coach at two age groups, every club has a welfare officer these days, the county FA has numerous welfare and safeguarding officers, and as coaches you are vetted extensively and then undergo safeguarding training which you have to repeat every 3 years along with submitting repeat DBS’s. It was different times back then I imagine, but there are lots of safety nets in place now thankfully.

Ace DBS’ are only useful for identifying who has criminal records.

If you’ve never been caught you pass those clean every time.

I’ve done my level one too, you have the safeguarding about what you should do in any given situation but you don’t get taught what to look out for in home abuse situations.

You'd like to think boys will never be asked to stay at a coach's house ever again, or be alone in a car with one.
I'm about half way through the second episode and some of the stories make your skin crawl.
Hopefully the c...s will get a hiding in prison.
