Where Have all the Characters Gone from Football ?
I was saddened by the passing of Frank Worthington this week. Now he was a character. The Sun https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/14434849/frank-worthington-passion-for-the-high-life-2/ summed him up perfectly
I also noted that Peter Lorimer also passed this week. Not what I’d call a character….but a really good player of his era. I also seem to remember Norman “bite your legs" Hunter also left us this year. Who can remember his famous ‘bust up’ with Francis Lee...it’s still on Youtube if you care to remember. I was there on that day.
It therefore set me thinking of Characters that are in the modern game….and sadly I cant think of any. Maybe the passing of time and nostalgia have clouded my thoughts but I really cant think of any….
I can remember going to a ‘Gentleman’s Evening’ at Notts County’s ground. It was years ago. A character Referee of the time Neil Midgley was one of the speakers. I also seem to remember Big Sam being the manager there at the time (correct me if I’m wrong)...he was dour...but Neil Midgley was sooooo funny...he had gags and football stories that had you in stitches...I laughed so much my face ached by the end of the evening. The point is, there doesn’t seem to be anyone now….football has become sterile and with the advent of Var a bit dour.

Personalites sucked out. Piers Morgan and Donald Trump are characters and look how they get perceived for being outspoken and not easily offended like the most others.

Piers Morgan and Donald Trump are over privileged underbrained tw@s. They might be outspoken but they say nothing that is worth listening to. They are also both icredibly thin skinned like all narcissists.

Katie Hopkins bankrupt. Donald Trump could be in prison in the near future, personally owes millions to Deutsche bank. Piers Morgan I assume is well healed but then he was born well healed. I don't really judge people by their wealth or claimed wealth. All three are total bumholes as people.
